Hey guys, i just repasted my G73, and now that i've done it once, i feel like i can do it 20x times. My G73JH is the best buy model, 900p screen and no bluetooth and i wanted to install the BT chip on the G73, i bough this one on ebay, BT-183, is this the correct module for my G73, i know the connector sure looks right...is this an OEM or an original module?

Also why do they say wifi-bluetooth module??? does this mean i'll have a second wifi module on my G73 or will this directly replace my current wifi module?

There also seems to be the BT-253 module but the cable doesnt look familiar, anobody done this before?

I think the bluetooth module in the G73 is BT-270. Not sure. My laptop isn't with me at the moment so can't check.

I picked up a BT-253 from ebay, works great... might have gotten the wrong one, but I purchased from the same seller as you linked.

No complaints from me, but you may want to get some double-sided tape to tape down the module. There are cable runners that are built into the bottom case, and it 'mounts' on the front right of the case section (should be a little flatspot closer to the front than the screw hole).

Install is pretty easy, if you have issues getting it installed after you get it, send me a PM, cause I need to add some doublesided tape to mine anyways... just been procrastinating it :D

Here's a link to the one I bought, works like a charm, but if it normally comes with the BT-270, look for that.

I'd replace the wifi card with Intel 6230n which is a combo card wifi & BT.

    Cheers,

They should just be antenna leads... It would be like swapping external antennas on a router. As long as it fits it should work as it's just a physical medium for the signal

thats what i though...i just wondered why are there 2 antennas on the stock adapter if it doesnt have dualband or BT.

Anybody know if i can be connect to both my 5ghz and 2.4ghz connection at the same time?? My issue is i want the 5ghz connection for my N only but i have a NAS on my 2.4ghz which i usually transfer stuff from my G73

It's one or the other, as it is only one wifi interface. You should still be able to hit the NAS if they are in the same subnet. It might actually perform better on the 5ghz, as wi-fi acts as a hub, not a switch.

If everything is in the same network, it would theoretically be like your G73 was on one hub which is connected to a switch, connected to a separate hub which is connected to your NAS. As the 2.4 and 5 ghz wifi on the router are separate interfaces, you have two different colision domains... So you will have significantly less collisions in that case.

LOL... sorry, I'm a network engineer by profession....

If your 5ghz and 2.4ghz Wireless Access points are on the same network, you should be able to access all resources over either wireless connection. As for the Hub/Swtich stuff... its all Layer 2 (Ethernet, 802.11A/G/N) technical info. Essentially, wireless acts as a hub. when you plug 5 computers into a hub at any given moment, only one device can talk at a time. This is what boils down into a collision domain, as a hub is a collision domain. When 2 devices transmit at the exact same time, a collision occurs, and both stop sending network packets, wait a random time, then attempt to re-transmit the packets. This is the exact reason WiFi is not optimal for FPS multiplayer, as collisions cause lag-spikes and tele-lag (warping) in game.

Wikipedia link to thwart my brain-melting....
Collision domain - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Essentially, if you have a dual band router/access point, even if your NAS is on 2.4, and your computer is on 5ghz (but same network) they are on separate collision domains, which theoretically should increase your network throughput and increase your transfer speeds. Then again, with any NAS, its the drives that are usually the bottleneck, so this all maybe a mute point.

So.... now that I've probably melted some brains, let me know if you need additional understanding on this. Most people don't realize the level of complexity that is involved with WiFi, or the level of things that can interfere with quality WiFi (example... your microwave in your kitchen WRECKS your WiFi signal with interference when cooking that hotpocket...)

Sorry to revive an old thread but I just bought one of the Intel Centrino 6230 cards and have it installed but i keep getting a device cannot start (code 10)
can any of you tell me if you had to do anything special to get this installed and can anyone send me the drivers they used to get it working correctly on theirs. I am still showing the bt-270 in device manager not sure if this has anything to do with it.

Did you uninstall the drivers for your old network adapter first?

You can get the latest drivers straight from Intel's support site.
