This laptop should be powerful enough to play 1080p videos right? i've been trying to watch some anime and movies in 1080p but they all seem to lag and tear like crazy, am i wrong to think this laptop is THAT powerful?
-
Its either VLC or the files fault. Definitely not the G73's fault. Not in this universe.
Try a different media player. Like MPC-HC or the tons of other free alternatives out there. -
CCCP+Media Player Classic here. I'm tearing 1080p videos up, no problem. VLC is poop, don't use it.
-
Using the latest SVN build of MPC-HC (2976) with CCCP and everything is butter smooth. -
VLC is for people who don't know how to install codecs.
-
My friend has a G73JH, he also has slow performance on 1080p movies.
One thing could be that the screen is 1600x900, 900 is less than 1080 which could be part of the problem. The vid card might have to scale down each frame as it is rendered.
Not sure if I am correct, but to me it makes sense since 1080 is the height of the frame in those 1080p videos, where 900 is the height of the G73JH monitor. -

when playing 1080p MKV Anime, always use Media Player Classic. VLC sucks with MKV
-
I want to use MPC, but when i was playing around with the audio settings in order to get 5.1 coming out of my amp, i screwed something up and now everytime i play a video MPC changes my windows colour profile to basis, which is VERY annoying. How do i fix this, because ive had to use the standard windows media player, which i do not like.
-
View-> Options-> Output-> Set to Haali's Renderer, EVR Custom, or madVR.
and/or
View-> Renderer-> Presentation-> make sure that "Disable desktop composition(Aero)" is not ticked. -
Use CCCP and media player classic and say babye to problem. I used windows player and sometimes I get errors but try using MPC and it will be fixed.

I use K-lite codec pack.. prefer it to CCC anytime. And yes Media Player Classic Homecinema.
-
Can of worms when it comes to codec packs, but (from the standpoint of most technically literate elitists
), K-Lite installs a ton of redundancies + craps up your registry entries.
CCCP on the other hand is somewhat lighter, and less mega-packish. Coupled with the CodecTweakTool, the new Haali Splitter and you're set.
On the other hand, you could buy CoreAVC 2.0 if you own an Nvidia card and have no issues with MKVs, used in conjunction with any player.
Other free alternatives like Daum PotPlayer also work great. (with ffdshow installed.)
Again we, collectively, stress. Its is not the fault of the G73. Its your player/codec configuration. -
Yeah, I'd avoid codec packs in general. FFDshow if you must, an MKV splitter ... *shrugs*
-
One fix-around I've found is that I change the Power4Gear settings to High Performance.
-
Go to XBMC.org and download the windows version of XBMC... It doesn't use codecs as it is all built-in to the application...
Totally smooth and fluid playback of all filetypes... It is also one hell of a sexy media system... -

Do you have any MPC-HC settings that you really care about?
Hopefully not and then try a reset of settings.
