It seems there are quite a few people looking for a beast with the HD5870M for Bad Company 2 after reading how well ATi is tearing up this game.
- Bad Company 2 contrary to what DICE claims is a CONSOLE PORT. This game dropped the ball on the most BASIC of requirements for PC FPS gaming. It's incredible and astounds me they released this game this way. It's the ultimate FU to PC Gamers that made DICE who they are today, NOT console players. Incredible....
I have only played about 2 hours in this game as I find it annoying, but whatever.
Here are the steps.
Slow Load Times, Everyone dead before you enter the map... zzz... Install the 8.74 Beta Drivers and Profiles
DICE screwed up big time on this one. They have known about this issue since Beta and still haven't fixed it. ATi took it upon themselves to fix DICE's screw up. _|_ DICE.
- Who else but DICE releases an online game where half the gamers have load times 3X longer than the other half? WHO DOES THIS?
Uninstall everything. Go into safemode and run Driver Sweeper. Then run CCleaner.
Reboot normally. Install the leaked 8.74 Drivers, these are newer than the Catalyst 10.4 Previews and they have EVERYTHING native for Mobile. Meaning you can install Avivo, Hydravision, ATi Drag n Drop, CCC and your drivers all in one package.
Driver Sweeper
CCleaner
ATi 8.74 Beta Drivers Package
Latest ATi Profiles
DX11
Go to Documents, BFBC2 Folder and open up settings.ini. There you should see DxVersion=Auto. Set it to DxVersion=11
- The fact this isn't in the control panel in game is more evidence of this being a Console Port. The UI is limited just as you would expect from a Console game not a PC game.
Mouse Control - Pre-Render Ahead, stuttering, high quality AF
Ray the creator of Tray Tools always posts his latest versions here:
http://cid-a50350ea7a969f0c.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/Public/attsetup.exe
When you install ATT, you need to go through the install setup slowly. Make sure you disable Overclock and disable Overdrive. If you don't do this, you will have immediate BSOD every time ATT loads (at least for me, confirmed by another G73 user and a HD5650M user).
Now that you have ATT installed and working awesome, reason why I did it, I want Flip Queue Size. This is what controls how many frames your GPU queues up. This is the same as Pre-Rendered Frames in Nvidia which is awesome. Set it to 2 or 3 and your BC2 mouse should be a little better.
Also this should eliminate if you have any stuttering even though you have high FPS. An added bonus you can enable high quality AF with ATT that isn't available in CCC for some reason. Again probably laziness?
Field of View
When fps game developers make games they decide on a field of view for the camera. And like everything else, DICE who supposedly made this for PC and not a console port, dropped the ball on this also. Morons.
Go to your My Documents, BFBC2 Folder, open settings.ini
- Look for FOV=55
Go to: http://rjdown.co.uk/projects/bfbc2/fovcalculator.php
- Find the correct FOV.
Mouse Control - Mouse Smoothing
What DICE did with this is a travesty. Blows my mind how they claim they made this game for PC and not a console port but still haven't fixed this. s.
So what am I talking about? Even if you disable mouse smoothing in BC2, it's still enabled. YOU CAN'T DISABLE IT. And there is also the awesome reverse acceleration. Meaning if you move our mouse slow, covers a lot of distance, mouse your mouse same distance, quickly, half the distance covered on screen. Epic Fail.

The 8.74 drivers works fine but i have a problem is that. When i try to uninstall the driver ,it will become a black screen and i have to hold the power button for 5 seconds to turn off.
Is it normal?? -
10.4 preview drivers are what I'm using.

There are millions of more console players, I don't blame dice from a business perspective. For a console port it sure stresses video cards still. I agree, pc did make BF what it is today. It's still a great game I think.
-
Something kinda cool they did was break up all the threads (from what they did for the PS3) which means it's awesome on quad core processors.
-
What helped me most was the ATi Tray Tools and the mouse smoothing fix.

I doubt this has anything to do with the Dice! It's just a mayor screw up on the part of Ati not providing appropriate drivers when they are needed!
Do you know how quickly NVidia produces drivers to fix problems with new software titles? Usually on the day they are released!
Your claim that Bad Company 2 is just a bad console port is bull. The PC version has completely different interaction with dedicated servers. The complete frontend was built for the PC. It doesn't exist for the consoles. Also the PC version has much better graphics.
If you want to talk cheap console port then talk Modern Warfare 2. THAT is a cheapass console port.
If any gamer just sticks the 10.6 leaked driver on their G73JH then it will play Bad Company 2 perfectly. Only in cases where there is a lot of dust, fog and smoke the framerate drops significantly. Disable bloom in the ini file for that. -

As for graphics, not really. If you compare screenshots from PS3 to PC, I can't tell the difference. Looks same to me. -

Hit box was messed up in Battlefield 2 also and that certainly wasn't a console port. They are probably using the same technique now as in BF2 so no surprise to me.
They actually managed to make the server browser faster for BC2 which they never did in BF2. So hopes are high for better hit box detection. -
i installed the drivers and did the Mouse fix and what a difference. Faster load times and better framerates. Mouse is much more sensitive now too. Now I just need to improve my accuracy
