Yesterday I was finally able to login in to the open beta weekend for Diablo 3 but I have found a myriad of issues with my G73 in the game. On high settings I constantly have framerate issues, even on low graphical settings there is a lot of stuttering in gameplay

the other issue I have is overheating, after playing for not even 20 minutes my laptop shuts down due to excessive heat

I didn't see any other threads but these issues don't seem like they should be happening, this game does not appear to have the most cutting edge graphics in gaming and its the first game I've had actually shut my laptop off due to heat

are there any solutions out there to this?

How often do you clean the vents of your G73JH?

It sounds like a temp issue to me.

I have played it perfectly fine on mine. Idle temps are at 50c and after hours of gaming it gets to around 70c.

Diablo 3 runs perfectly on the highest settings with shadows on medium and AA off.

Try lowering the Max FPS. It seemed to heat up my laptop quite a bit as well.

Some of the stuttering may be server lag though.

Also stutter on my G74 , sure the game is not optimised enough.

But we already knew that before the beta was opened

I had the same problem on g73jh, the model that comes with radeon 5870... I couldnt play more than 5 minutes withour my computer shutting down... so I found the perfect solution looking at sc2 forums... here it is:

First of all uninstall creative sound software
Uninstall your current default ATI Catalyst software and video driver
Download the latest BIOS from Asus support page, it should be 213 BIOS and install it with asus utility tool WINFLASH
*Remember to restar your computer after each step

Then you need upgrade your vbios with a bootable usb - follow these steps
    BSOD/Black Screen/Crashing Issue - Forums - StarCraft II

bios 213 helps correct and issue with the fans that cause overheat and to shut down your computer
*with the vbios update you can now install the lastest driver for your ati radeon 5870 from the ati web page , NOT ASUS

after all this, you can now play without worries!!!

    works like a charm!

Personaly I am not having a over heating issue.

I played for about 1 hour with no shut downs.

I already had 213 bios and the most current drivers for everything else.

I also clean my vents every 30 days. Idel temps seem to be 50 today.
    In game I saw 74....

Right now the game is off line... I wish it would stay up all day.. but it is down till 5pm pst...

Absolutely no problem here. Still running Bios 211 and played some hours Diablo 3 beta. I did clean my fans last week though (the first time after nearly 2 years). Running in max resolution with nearly all details on maximum and very fluent :)
I restricted the FPS to 60, as our screen can't do more than 60Hz.

Janth: You most likely need to rip the whole beast apart and clean the fans and the vents. You might also need to repaste but before ripping the whole beast apart, check first your temps via HWiNFO64 while staying on the Diablo 3 Beta login screen to observe how your temps rise.

I have played the Diablo 3 Beta on my G73JH-A2 (newly repasted and cleaned just a week ago with ICD-7) and I play around 40-50 fps on all high settings and v-sync=off (700/1000 MHz) while my GPU temp maxed-out at 88Celsius and 34Celsius ambient temp (summer is hot here in the Philippines).

Option: Lock your FPS so that the GPU & CPU dont work overtime to render un needed frames. This is the core of your problem.

Option: In ideal conditions a computer should not overheat even in 100% load, so your cooling is not working it needs to be cleaned or thermal paste applied

Option: If thermal connection is good and vents clean the fans are not spooling up proper, use various flashing/software methods to make the fans run faster.

Always run newest drivers for your gpu at any rate it will often fix performance problems for newer games and make things run as they should.

I got on Full HD / High Settings with AA no lags at all on my G73JH and was quite impressed how low the requirements of D3 are. I use a quite old GPU driver though (11.10) and set the NB into performance mode before I started the game.

It ran perfectly fine on my G74SX. On max resolution, with all high settings except one thing was on medium (I think texture?). Ran smooth even in ridiculous battles. And I didn't notice the fan blowing up.
