Hello, I suppose this was already asked (and answered) but I searched the forums and looked through the sticky here and got no answers. So, my question is if g73jh will work with gtx460 video card (from another g73 model) with the corresponding heatsink?

Unless your current card is failing, I don't think it worth it to pay the price for gtx-460m for the same level of performance, nor is it worth the risk of the card not working.
However, your machine is upgradable to 6970/6990/7970m, which are much more powerful cards (and the 7970m is pretty cool-running).

    Give it a thought.
The 7970m is the most awesome card evaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

Well, I have a gtx-460m card if you really want to go through with it, but I can't guarantee it working. I haven't managed to find any source on the net of it working, and come to think of it, Asus LOVES proprietary form factors. So on top of having to find a gtx-460m card, you'd have to find an ASUS-made one, which will bump its price up even higher.
    Get the 7970m. My advice.
    Good luck.

Do that, it would be good for other users to know :) I've seen people on other threads wondering the same thing as you.

I had the opportunity to give this idea a try today. It's a GTX 460m from a G73SW-BST6 that's Mobo burn on me (Don't ask). I got in a G73JH today that would power on but no video, so I did what any self-respecting nerd would do. I put the 460m on the JH Mobo and fired it up. Crazy thing is it worked loaded the ASUS screen and went straight to the bois.

As you can see in the pictures, the PCI mini port for the wifi card is in the way and keeping the 460m from setting down all the way. So unless you want to cut that off, pretty much no way to get this back into the laptop. But hey it loaded, I verified my 460m still works (My poor SW), and that the mobo from the JH still works. Guess it was a good experiment.

You could probably resolder mini pcie port on tv port place. Its easily done with soldering iron and vacum pump. And I know that unsolderd port is actualy working as I used it to make internal usb conection there for my wireless razer mamba mouse receiver.

Another thing that I've found pretty cool is the SW's motherboard will fit perfectly in the JH's casing. I like the JH's looks better, it's just small differences really. So when I track down a new SW motherboard, I'm going to rebuild it in this JH's case. Should be fun.

This sounds crazy but try to flash your mobo using a G73JW bios; its very risky, but there are methods to flash it back even if you brick it. btw, dont you need a different heat sink to mount GTX 460m on a amd heat sink?

Well I need to get a new SW mobo first, but what would be the advantage of the JW bois on the SW?

The heat sink from the 460m fits just fine. I actually put that setup in the JH base just to see how far off it is. Really with a little modification I think it could be made to work with out messing with the Wifi cards PCI slot. New mounting point would have to be figured out. Though I'm heading in the opposite direction, I'd rather test my SW mobo with a 6970m or 7970m. The 5870m from the JH is dead, otherwise I would try that first.

The JH mobo is working fine and I got the JH ridiculously cheap, so I'm keeping everything but the mobo and selling all my SW parts. Then I'll put a new SW mobo & video card in the JH. Then modding it like crazy. lol.
