I'm planning on buying a G73JH X3 model, without a backpack, but can't find a backpack that can hold the G73's dimensions. I looked at Wegner's Ibex and Pegasus, and thought the half a foot could squeeze in but I'm having second thoughts. So far it seems the only backpacks I could find that fit were the Targus XL and the Groove.
What I want to know is whether I should spend the extra money for an A2, or if anyone is using a different backpack for their G73. Also, if there is any information on the quality of the ASUS backpack and how well it could do with a laptop and many books.

I'm going to get the Targus XL backpack eventually, and I can't imagine the free included backpack is going to be superior to the Targus.

The free backpack IS a Targus, just nowhere as roomy as the XL. The Dell XPS M1710 unit works too, but is a bit snug for a G73.

    I can confirm that. I own a Targus XL and it's perfectly fine for a Gateway P-7807u (17in) I owned, and a 17in Acer.

It fits the G73 and all its accessories, but the fit is tight, and you'll have to watch for the zipper on the top not catching the edges of the G73.

The backpack that comes with the notebook is indeed a redranbed targus. There was a card saying inspected by inspector#: on one side and targus on the other side. It's true it's a bit snug when you have to zip it. I don't know the exact model, but personally, i like it. It's comfortable, the G73 fits well in it and i don't feel that the laptop is not protected by it. They only quirk i have with it it that it says republic of gamers on it. The text is small but still there, i wished they had only put the logo without the ROG text.

I know this is an expensive option, but it is about the highest quality backpack you can get: Slappa Velocity Matrix, Spider, or MASK. I picked up a Slappa Velocity Matrix and the G73JH fits in there very well, albeit a snug fit.

Try one of the Dell XPS branded laptop backpacks. You can find them NIB at ebay. They are extremely high quality. They are quite large, though. You can actually fit a full-sized keyboard in one. If you are looking for quality, roominess, and low cost ($50 shipped usually) there is none better.

    AV1611 out....

    RE: Slappa Velocity Matrix

The laptop sleeve is located in the back compartment. The G73 slides in easily and it's the perfect fit for it, not too tight as to make it difficult to insert/remove, but snug enough to keep it from bouncing around and moving. However, the flap that goes over the sleeve when the G73 is inside isn't able to velcro shut on it's designed velcro patch. It does velcro shut, only cuz the material in the bag is soft and velcro can stick to it. Really though, it doesn't change any functionality of the bag as far as I am concerned. But, it is something that can very easily be addressed with a velcro strap extender. I plan on fabricating one myself in the next few weeks.

They are expensive, wonder if you could call them (they are a small family company) and haggle with em.

I've got the Slappa MASK and love it. I've posted on it before, but Slappa's good people. I've worked with Barb a few times out there and would recommend them.

I have the bundled targus backpack. I've taken the rubber foot off the back right corner of the g73 twice now from removing it too quickly.

If it wasn't for that, the backpack would be almost perfect. Very good build quality and enough room for everything without being absolutely enormous.

I got one of these "clearance" bags from Buy.com, and while it's WONDERFUL with all the padding and features, it's "pocket" for the laptop is too tight, and I literally can't get my G73JH-A3 ROG laptop into it. :(

I've considered cutting the stitching, so the pocket just holds at the main "side seams" of the bag, and not along the back of the backpack as well. Not sure what this will do to the overall makeup of the bag, but it SHOULD give me the extra 1/4" or so I need to be able to slip the laptop in and out of the bag. Have NOT tried that yet though.

Will look at a couple of the suggestions in this thread, and see if one is reasonably priced and good enough looking to justify. After all, this is a DESKTOP REPLACEMENT, so maybe the included Targus is good enough for the couple times a year I might actually move my laptop. ;)
