Hi, I've had my G73JH for a month now, and I've noticed that, evebn though when gaming the fans are relatively silent, they're equally loud when I have my Power4Gear settings in Battery Saving with a 36% cap on processor speed (I use this setting when I'm downloading stuff and I'm not home). My old HP laptop used to be much more silent than this when idle, but when I was gaming there would be a huge difference. Is this normal?

It's true, the right fan is noticeably louder :)

Thanks for the link, I tried the first suggestion but it didn't work out very well. I made shortcuts for the 3 configurations listed there, but when I try setting the Low configuration, I get a black screen or a light blue screen with vertical lines. I even did what the guide suggested and stepped through the 300/300 configuration, waiting for some 5 minutes before trying 100/200.

I'm using the 10.4 ATI drivers and I don't have the Creative software installed. Any idea what could be the problem?

    Thanks

    Maybe your 5870 can't do 100/200 =/

Try to find the lowest clocks you can do manually with AMDGPUTool and then set it to those.

Mine couldn't do that either. I've never gotten a GSOD outside of downclocking, so be prepared to tweak and mess with it a lot to find your happy medium. Just understand that it may not work well for you- it wouldn't for me.

You can also change some of the cooling to passive in the power management section.
