Hey there guys. Did some searching and came up with no results on this topic. My new G73 constantly requires a hard restart nearly every time I wake my computer from hibernate or sleep.
It will wake up but the mouse will not move when using the touchpad, applications won't open and my gadgets won't even appear. I have done 2 windows hotfixes to try and correct this problem with no luck. Anyone else have this issue? And any ideas for what I can do to resolve it?
The best buy geek squad recommended to reformat the computer but it came with no windows restore disk. If this is the only solution anyone else can offer, would you mind please directing me to a how-to reformat a windows 7 computer? Thanks so much.

As a first step, run a disk check and a memory test (memtest86+).

Don't I run command prompt as an admin?
What are the exact phrases that I write to start these processes?
Thanks! -

check disk: hit the windows key, type cmd, hold right shift+ctrl, answer yes, hit enter type chkdsk /f c: hit enter type y hit enter type shutdown -r -t 0
or the gui way: Disk Check - Windows 7 Forums

Thanks. I'll let you know the outcome of this.

Alright I managed to figure both out and both came out clean. I passed 4 times on the memtest and I guess any problems in the hard drive were fixed.
I tried to hibernate the computer again and 5 minutes later I woke it up. The mouse would move but again, the computer started not responding. Everything would freeze up and not respond and the mouse pending circle went around whenever I would scroll over anything that wasn't the desktop.
A few minutes later the computer managed to unfreeze, which doesn't happen all the time. But I guess this is not a hardware related problem.
Any other ideas? -
I would not format and reload yet. First remove power4gear. Reboot and use one of the 3 remaining power schemes.
Also verify that you are on the latest BIOS, but read this first IF you need to update

Hope this helps, Josea
I have this bookmarked but thank god have not had to use it, I hope you will not need it either

If power4gear is the problem and u want it on your computer, just make sure you update it.

Surprisingly I have been suspecting Power4Gear myself. It is also messing up my brightness keyboard shortcut buttons. It goes up 4 notches then restarts back from the bottom. To get the screen to full brightness I have to go into power settings and manually drag it upwards with the mouse. I will try updating/uninstalling Power4Gear and check the Bios.
I'm not 100% sure, but I think i recently updated the Bios but it may have been the vBios. What would be the difference?
I changed it to version 209 not too long ago.
Also, kind of off topic but does anyone know how to fully uninstall a program that came installed called Best Buy PC App. The uninstaller crashes every time and I cannot seem to get rid of it. Thanks again!!
Alright so I uninstalled Power4Gear and then hibernated my computer while I went to a doctor appointment. When I got back I woke the computer up and the keyboard lights flashed on for about 1 second and the LDC theme (vivid, normal, gamma correction) flashed through a few settings before landing on one. The touchpad would not move the mouse, it was as if it was disabled. However my USB mouse would work. My wifi signal dropped and had "limited connectivity" on my home network. Lastly no programs would respond.
I did a hard restart and something came up saying "System Resume Failed" and asked if I'd like to try to resume from the same spot again to which I agreed, and again the same thing happened. Did another hard restart and canceled the resume, and just booted up again and a Check Disk scan started. It said "Deleting Entry...." on quite a few lines. Anyone know what this can mean?
Now windows is back up and running but I'm pretty sure if I hibernated it this would happen again.

When I have my Intel X-25 80 gig SSD installed I can not wake from sleep. After about 10 minutes all flashing blue lights (on power switch and the 1st on the front panel) switch to solid blue - and the 3 decicated buttons come on as well as the light under the display panel. The drive light on the panel does not come on. I can only press the power button and hold to shut it down. (note firmware is up to date for the SSD and I have tried various Display drivers for the 5870 M, Bios and VBIOS are also updated (213 and
OD2) - I never use hibernate so it is disabled, I use balanced power plan and power-4-gear is removed.
If I put in the original Seagate HDD sleep works flawlessly. (this is an out of box image, no updates to any programs or windows itself).
I have tested my ram as Allur suggested above and it passes.
Thanks for any sugggestions.
Tijo came up with the fix for me -- In advanced power settings - hard drive time out had to be set to never! He is a genius. -
You could try disabling hibernate, wait a minute, then enable it back. This will recreate the hibernation file, which in your case may be partially corrupted. Here are some suggestions you can try:
1) The hang can be caused by some application that is not cooperating with Sleep/Hibernation. You can test by disabling any extra processes/apps and see if the problem goes away.
2) Update to SP1 for updated Sleep/Hibernation support. (if not done already)
3) The hibernation file can be troublesome or badly fragmented. Solution is to disable hibernation, and then re-enable it, so that it recreates the file. To do so, open up a Command Prompt with Admin rights. Then enter
powercfg.exe /hibernate off
Let it sit for 15 seconds, to let the OS do its clean-up, and then enable it with
powercfg.exe /hibernate on
4) You can just disable hibernation and use Sleep only. See above.
If you feel the need to reformat, you can do a factory restore using F9 at ASUS boot screen, or using your Factory Recovery CD's. (If you have not made a set, download ver. .15 or later of AI Recovery for best results)
I will PM you your service case number in case you need it.
Sincerely,
Chris

I suspect your issues are the same I have been having.
The issue is with the intel C-states, which as I understand have something to do with power savings. As far as I am concerned, they are poorly designed, poorly implemented, poorly supported, or a combination thereof.
If your problem is the same as mine (with the C-states), the fix is simple, and seems to be working for other people as well:
1. Download and install Throttlestop 3.0.
2. Once installed, press the Cx button until it reads C1. This disables the C3/6/7 states.
3. Uncheck the box "C1E".
Leave the "EIST" box checked. The only other box I have checked is "Set Multiplier", which I have selected at Turbo.
If your issue is with the C-states, this should solve the problem.
Here is a guide to Throttlestop:

Hope this helps.
