    Hey all,
I'm thinking about buying the G73JH from best buy but I've heard some bad things. First of all, I've heard that there have been some hardware issues, although BB will replace the laptop. Also, the laptop does not come with a Windows 7 disk, so I was planning on buying an OEM copy from tigerdirect (not a question, just a gripe with what I'm buying).

My main concern is the screen. Everyone has told me that I should go with the LG screen, but in the product description it doesn't say which type of screen it is (heres a link)
    Asus - Laptop with Intel® Core™ i7 Processor - Black - G73JH-RBBX05

Also, I would prefer having a higher resolution screen, but is there any retailer that will sell the laptop with 1 500gb hd, 6 gb of ram, and the higher res screen? i can't find it anywhere

GenTechPC has them not exactly at that configuration but they have them.

Asus stopped giving windows disks recently, so no matter where you order, you won't get one with it. You would know by looking into the device manager. However you'd need to have the laptop to do that. I guess you could always ask at a best buy store or look at the display they have. If the G73s they have in stock come from the same batch, there's a good chance they all have the same screen.

The screen on the ones from GenTechPC are also very good ones and have a higher resolution if i'm not mistaken.

yeah but those websites have the more expensive version of the laptop, not the "watered down" version best buy has

even the version best buy has is a top of the line gaming laptop, the only differences are the screen resolution the amount of ram and the hd

have any of you bought the system of best buy? and do you recommend it?

I had one with the LG screen. Very fast, played all my games very well. More detail than I'd ever seen! Sold it and bought an X2 because I really liked having the Bluetooth and bluray. The 1080p screen is nice but the BB LG was brighter.

    You'll enjoy it.

    Cheers,

I, personally, dont own the BB version of the G73...I did however own the G72 with the same LCD. The LCDs are for lack of a better word...bad.

Very VERY poor viewing angles, no deep black contrast to speak of (its all gray) and the colors are kinda bland...

Besides that though, its still a G73...same i7 CPU, same GPU, same chassis, same everything lol...just check out the LCD before your buy...

Well I'd say for the upgraded specs it's worth the extra money.
    The final decission is yours.

Buy XoticPC. That said and out of the way. If you buy from BB you can just walk in within the 1st 30 days and get a new one. I just did on a Sprint product. No RMA and wait.

I am not convinced the BB models at this time have any greater issues than online. So with the immediate replacement and config BB might be best for you.

Oh and PowerNotebooks.com is a very good reseller as is Gentech.com.

hmmm, I'm trying to decide if the upgraded specs are worth it, i'll have to check and see how much cash I have

i'm curious to see if, a few years down the road, people will notice issues with the g73jh because if after a year something breaks the BB warranty won't do me any good

the non-BB models also come with 2 yrs warranty and 1 year Accident Coverage, and Zero Dead Pixel Assurance free. To get the same from Best Buy will cost you a few hundred. Something to consider.
