    Hi all,

just got my G73JH and noticed every time I start windows 7 the "Library" folder opens up automatically.

I've tracked it down to the ASLDR service (required to use the FN hotkeys). When this service starts, it somehow triggers the folder to open. Does anyone else have this happen on their machine?

How can I stop the folder from opening? t's not huge problem but mildly annoying.

I have reinstall windows and used the ATK drivers from the cd and off the Asus site with the same result.

You sure you don't have your library folder in the Startup folder?

Do you have a G73JH? can you confirm it does this on ur own system?

I am very sure I DO NOT have anything in MSCONFIG or startup which would be opening this folder.

Bear in mind this is a fresh install of win7. nothing done to it except install drivers.

I have done extensive testing and by disabling the ASLDR service the Library folder does not pop up. Once I start it, the folder will immediately open.

Just want to know if anyone else has this experience

You could uninstall it, and reinstall. You may want to run a registry cleaner too.

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the ATK package? It controls the hotkeys and potentially was installed incorrectly and is causing the issue.

*edit* Typing while watching TV for the loss. :p

    yes, i have tried

    - uninstall and reinstall of the driver
    - format and reinstall windows

    the folder still pops up.

i can do a selective boot in MSCONFIG and remove only the ASLDR service which stops the folder opening on boot up. However, the FN keys for keyboard lights/sound volume no longer work.

edit: sorry, yes aramis109 the ATK package is the driver I was referring to above.

i've tried using the version on the CD which comes with the laptop and the one off the asus website which the filename indicates is V1.0.0001 (ATKPackage_XP32_Vista_Win7_100001.zip)

where can i get the V1.0.0004 version?

Only other thing I can think of is that there's a hotkey or shortcut stuck down or a faulty keyboard/driver. May want to try to install the newest driver from the ASUS website.

My Libary always opens too. I thought it was a feature of Windows 7 LOL.

Mildly annoying yes, and I'm willing to find out if there is a fix to that.

In the old days when a explorer window would popup after booting it usually meant that some entry wasn't properly quoted in the registry.

Is this ATK package here the one you installed?

well just had a chance to try it. the version Chastity linked (V1.0.0004) unfortunately did not change anything.

Kalim, i tried your version as well with the same result (Library folder opens on startup). i also previously tried adding quotes to all the entries in the reg that i could find with no luck.

so for now i'm stumped on a fix. i'm running windows 7 pro (i have the AUS TZ800X model which comes standard with pro)

anyone else other than zzygote and me experience this?

Mmmm, it also seems to happen whenever I put my laptop in sleep/hibernate

It pops up as soon as windows has loaded.

Weird issue, and its kinda uncommon to be a small fraction of the community to have this... What gives?

hey zzygote, just to test. can you try running services.msc and setting the ASLDR service to "disable" then reboot

you should find that the folder will not open on reboot, however the keyboard won't light up and the FN keys wont work with volume or keyboard light brightness.

then open services.msc again and start the ASLDR service, the Libraries folder should pop up automatically

Do a Google search for this issue. You are not alone and this is not unique to the G73. Wish I could offer more help. Maybe search the Windows Knowledge base?

I have the same problem, except it's internet explorer 8 that pops up, minor annoyance, but I suppose I"ll stick with it until I have time to RMA.

Is iexplore.exe in your startup folder or in the configured startup items (for the latter, use msconfig - "Startup" tab)?

Nope, nothing, I googled and someone else had this problem on social microsoft and they isolated the problem to ASLDR, Why does IE8 start up automatically when I login? And I can confirm that the problem does not happen until Asus ATK package is installed. The person never said a fix so I have no idea if they resolved the problem.

I would start broad, just clean the whole registry (back it up first of course) and then if there's still a problem, look for a specific registry or registries.

I like to use autoruns.exe for looking at startup items because it is more complete/sometimes shows startup items that's not shown in msconfig.exe

Attached are my login programs, I can safely say that microsoft gadget and drivermax are not the cause of the problems, because I had it even before installing office 2007 and drivermax. I'm almost sure it's an asus program, but I can't pinpoint which one and telling asus was useless, all they told me was update atk to 1.0004 which didn't work and then they just told me disable alsdrv, but then I lose keyboards lightsand fn keys. I suppose worst come to worst I disable ie8 and use firefox, but hey let's see if it can fixed without doing that. My guess is one of asus's programs activating a key combination that causes my homepage to come up since that is the page that comes up when ie pops up.

What's ASLDR version do you have?
    (usually "C:\Program Files (x86)\ASUS\ATK Package\ATK Hotkey\AsLdrSrv.exe")
Just curious :) Mine is 1.0.51.1, and it's just fine

I have the same version....very weird indeed, I did not have this porblem with my last laptop, but that one had GSOD and overheating problems. I used an asus techinical inquiry and they weren't very helpful, they pretty much said update drivers(already tried this failed :() and then then they just told me to turn off the program, but then my backlit turns off and I asked if they had another solution and no response. I suppose I could just disable ie8 and use firefox, but I don't feel like doing that unless I have to.
