So it's looking like my battery is dead. I unplug the computer with the battery in it and the thing shuts off instantly. Yet Windows it reporting it at 100% and the battery indicator light on the front of the computer is glowing green. Unfortunately I don't have another battery to test with, but the weird reporting makes me think it's more than just a dead battery.

I have a feeling there is a solution to this, and it's going to cost me a lot of money, but I'm wondering what the issue could be.

RMA to Asus or get yourself a new battery.

Normally a clear sign the battery is shot. As above if you are within warranty you could get a replacement from Asus otherwise go through a proper reseller and not an Ebay job as you may not get the amount of cells you pay for. You can check the wear on the battery using HWINFO.

Well, as a bit of an update the charging light on the front of the computer is now blinking orange/green. So... probably a shot battery.

What places are good for batteries? It doesn't seem to be widely available and most of the places that DO have it look shady, so I was wondering if anyone knew a decent place for it.

You could try the Asus e-store, the battery isn't cheap, but you can be sure it'll be genuine.
