I don't know if ASUS plans on using any AMD gpu's in the future but I have a chance to pick up a G73SW for $400. Which would you keep if you were going to upgrade the gpu?

The JW should be gimped so you can not upgrade the GPU. There was a test... someone tested a 480 in the JW and it did not boot. Also the nvidia does not seem to like the JH. But i could be wrong and the test was not done correctly.

I haven't seen topics here at NBR regarding the successful swap/upgrade of GPU in G73[x]W. So far, the brave members that successfully swapped 6970's to their G73JH seems promising for the JH owners.

Though we all know that technology innovation is so fast nowadays considering Ivy bridge, 28-nm GPUs and SATA3 will most likely be on laptops within this year. It's most probably worth the wait for the new laptops that ASUS/other companies would release than holding the hope for upgrading the older versions, unless you're deeply in-love with the looks of the G73 =)

no you cant , in my point of view asus g73 jh is the beast, it can do several upgrades but runs bit hot, and jw runs cooler , and going for jw wont last for for years because it has a gtx 460 gpu , but hd 5870 is a powerhouse gpu , it accepts any games you throw at it. but one more advantage with jw , battery life is better in it.

I will buy the G73SW then and sell it for profit on eBay.

Actually, no one has tried it with a G73SW. There was only one instance of someone trying another GPU (nVidia) in a G73JW, and it did not work most likely because the card had a Clevo VBIOS, and no other VBIOSes were available.

I was thinking that the SW has a better chance of an upgrade with future ASUS nVidia cards with minimal modding. The heatsink may have to be changed and the PSU may need to be upgraded but the design of the card could be the same. The whole idea could be wrong though. On another note the G73JH has been successfully modded and the AMD cards pack a punch.

    Which future Asus mobile GPUs?
Today you got an 'All-in-one'-package (soldered GPU).

I didn't realize they are now soldered. Guess ASUS doesn't like modders or maybe they are saving cost.

They must almost hate them. :p
At the G73JH they must have had a micro-sleep. ^^

Hi everyone, I few days ago my 5870M in my G73jh (2y 6m old) stopped working, laptop powers up (fan noise and keyboard lights showing) but screen remains black and also external monitors vga or hdmi have no signal.

I was looking for the clevo 6970m, because seamed to have less problems but I cant find one, there are a lot of dell and eurocom on ebay.

I read on other threads that eurocom perform fine did anybody try them?

Could you suggest the best GPU I could mount and where could I buy it?

    Thanks in advance
