Alright, this one has really got me confused. I had split up the two hard drives into 3 partitions, one for the OS, one for my Data, and one for Games. The OS and Data partitions were on the same hard drive, with Games on the other . I was copying music through iTunes onto my Data drive, when all of a sudden iTunes tells me the library can't be saved because the folder can't be found. So I go to look for my iTunes folder, and lo and behold, the entire partition is gone. I try to load up Disk Management, but that window just stays stuck on "Loading disk configuration information". I'm almost positive it's not a dead drive, because the other partition on that drive (OS) is working perfectly. What could be the problem?

Run a quick scan with HDTune

Oh and I should mention that under Device Manager, only one hard drive shows up. Does this mean the other is dead?

Or it got jostled loose if you were fooling around with them.

Yes it could be dead. That part you can access without voiding a warranty.

Ok, I don't know what the heck just happened, but I ran GParted (linux live cd that manages partitions) and it saw the drive, so I ran a check on it and restarted. Windows now sees the drive. Problem somehow magically solved. Please close thread.

    Run a check anyway

And use HDDScan to read the SMART data.

I ran a check on it through Linux to detect and fix any errors. Maybe a sector was corrupted during the initial transfer which caused Windows to not recognize the entire drive? Who knows.

    Check the SMART data.

The copy of HDTune I got offers no check for SMART data. And the partition disappeared again. I need to be more careful when transferring music. At least I know how to fix it (thank you linux).

HDDScan is the one that does smart properly.

HDTune also does it under the health tab, but I prefer HDDscan
