Hi, I have had my g73jh for about 5 years. A couple years ago it was stored in a very moist room for a while and since then the power button has to be pressed repeatedly to start up. Sometimes it turns on the first time and other times anywhere from 1 to 100's of times (I have a little ritual I do and swear to god it helps lol) It tends to turn on faster when the AC adapter is plugged in. I've disassembled it to repaste the cpu/gpu and there are no obstructions under the button. Oh, and I'm pretty sure the button mechanism itself is fine because it always works the first time when I press it to standby.
Is this something that's happened to any other g73jh owners? Is there any way of troubleshooting where the problem is caused?
    Thanks in advance :)

What happens if you hold the button down for longer?

Most notebooks deliberately wait longer on the button press on battery to stop false starts.

Is it normal for post to get ignored for this long? Should I word it differently? Thanks for any help.

I doubt there is much anyone can recommend, as it sounds like a hardware issue. Replacing the motherboard would seem the easiest fix to me. If you have access to another power supply you could try that, or maybe check the voltage etc output of your existing one if you have suitable meter and know how. The lack of responses probably also indicate this isn't a common fault.

Thanks! I'll see if I can get that tested with my multimeter :)

You could check the physical switch with the multimeter too.

you said you had had the laptop apart for a repast... dous your laptop have the bios reset button? i had myne apart the otherday and i reasembeled it and it would not tern on .. i thought ffffffffffffffffc% it did flick on for a moment when pressing the power button, i disasembeled the laptop agane slowley checking all the connections but it was all connected correctely i pluged in the power and it powered on. i sat back ant thought a moment and seen that the wires for the wifi had moved just a bit ( the tape that holds them in place had come lose) the white wifi antana was sitting just on top of the reset button on the base of the motherbord (i had never even seen the button there b4) but yer i stuck the wifi wires back in place with a new pece of tape & put it back togther and it powered up just fine.... sometimes its the simpelest things that can get you stumped....
