    Hey @tilla can you (or anyone else) tell me the Device ID of the Asus 5870m and of the MSI 5870, as well as the Subvendor ID of these cards? Or even better attach these two vbios files?

    @HellCry
    Thx. :)
    The MSI heatsink just covers the GPU die and the VRAM.
    Here is a pic of my one.

    Idk, why Asus cools some other parts (voltage regulators?)

    Don't tested Hdmi/Vga. I'm sorry. I have lot of tech here, but no flat yet. :eek:
    My Dell-LCD has DVI and I just forget to test it. Still I would had to search for a VGA adaptor. :p

    One point to the ID. Do you seen the vBios label on main G73 Bios site? Sure ;)
    After swapping the card there was something written like "ati 5870 ... ( unknown). Because of that I thought the Bios doesn't know this GPU. So I flashed the Asus vBios onto the MSI card. The label then shows the same like the original Asus card. But the fans still run like hell. :confused:

    My 6970m behaves almost the same. As vendor there's Sapphire/PCPartner and when I flash the Dell vbios it says "Dell" as vendor (as that's what's written in the Dell vbios) but the fan control still doesn't work... it's probably hardware caused.
    Anyway, flashing the Dell vbios had one effect, I was able to install the Dell driver and make audio through DisplaPort/HDMI working... this might be the same for the 5870m...

    My friend has a G73JH, I plan on trying my 5870m out of my MSI GX740 as his old card fried due to lack of care.

    Although this is not relevant to the forums main topic, we did put my 6970m (may be a 6970 ES or 6990m) in his G73JH to test and see if we would get any results. We only ended up with video on the VGA out (external monitor). I be-leave with a proper vbios, there is hope for G73JH owners to use a 6900 seires in there laptops.

    I will post later on the results of the 5870m in the G73JH.

    Be careful with the 6970!
    Have you seen this thread?

    Your 5870m should run as mine. But because of the fans, this isn't really a solution.
    Good luck.

    Surprisingly the 5870m in the Asus works great with no issues (no fan issue at all :eek: ). Temps are good, and performance is as it should be.

    I've done about 3 repastes on my Laptop, and 2 times from the factory, and I never got such low temps, maybe I am doing something wrong?

    Mmh, nice info.
    What BIOS (G73) and vBIOS (5870) you are using?

    Do you mean the standard temps for the Asus GPU?
    I have seen a max. of 83C in furmark when overclocked to 800/1100.
    But there seems to be previous revisions of the GPU, which may get hotter. Or heatsinks with lower quality.

    Yes, I've repasted 3 times with IC diamond and I would still get 90 C or 93 C using furmark, never as low as 30 idle like some other people here did.

    UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Alas , my G73 posts and now can hear that sound :p , didnt know that Asus puts a stupid start up sound like that, now I can see every thing in my bios , but laptop turns off after few seconds, can it be the psu? Im using an 65W ? Im like 100% sure that is psu, and the fan works as normal, not in 100% so if you if anyone brick your asus hd 5870m dell is your choice.
    @tilla , thanks for helping me.

    @tilla tried it about two years ago and the fans were constantly at 100%. He did try to flash the Asus vbios to the card and no change in the fan behavior.

    I was reading the post from evgasr2. He said that he's got Dell 5870M and it works. So I thought that maybe flashing MSI 5870M with Dell vBios will result with card with working fans. But now I see that he was banned from this forum, so I do not know if I can relly on what he said.

    He was banned for scamming on the marketplace. I would say that the Dell vbios won't work either, it has to be a hardware thing. I mean, fans work alright on Clevo and Dell cards regardless of vbios. If it was a vbios setting, the MSI card with the Asus vbios would have working fans, but it does not.

    Yeah, tijo is right.
    This fan control is hardware related. If it works with a Dell card it is because of the card, not the vBIOS.
    Because of wrong data from the card (different pin?, misformatted), the EC of the G73 seems to go into a failsafe mode.

    IMO evgasr2 spammed a lot of wrong facts.

    @vwrafi
    I PM'ed you too.

    Take what evgasr said with a grain of salt, some of the info he posted is correct, some is so-so and like @tilla said, he also has a few wrong facts, but i believe those were rebutted when he posted misleading info. Eurocom cards also seem to work, i think they are identical to Clevo cards, but at some point, they had a different PCB color so there might be one or two small differences here and there.
