I was travelling and had my G73 with me. When i got back home i noticed that the screen remained black, but i could hear Windows booting up. Closer inspection showed me that there was a hint of a try of backlight switching on.

Afterwards, I've disassembled the main unit, everything ok from the look of it and re-attaching cables. I've also taken the screen out and put it back in, can't see anything wrong there either. Sometimes when i change backlight brightness, it shows some life, but still pretty damn dark. So my question is, is it time for new screen, or can there be some other problem? Like how the screen knows when the lid is closed and could there be some fault? I had a HP once and same problem was solved by gluing a magnet back to place so it knew again when the screen is in up position.

EDIT: My unit has standard FHD glossy screen.

If the backlight selector makes a difference I think it's time for a new screen. It's LED so wont be an inverter going.

Sounds like a new screen... only laptop I've had this issue with ended up needing a new inverter which shouldn't be the problem here...
