Been having an issue for a while now which i at first thought was Skype being weird, but it's actually my sound.

I'll be using program #1 (could be a game/movie/ect) but if i get some sort of alert from program #2 in the background which has sound, my sound for program #1 will lower by about 50%. It will stay low until i close down program #1 and re-launch it, then again everything will be fine until i get another alert, either from the same program or from a different one.

I'm in particular talking about Skype/Steam/Facebook messages in the background while playing a game or watching a movie. I'll hear the little alert sound indicating that i have a message, and at that exact moment my main sound will just drop down. I simply can not understand why it will lower my main application's sound by roughly 50% until i re-launch it.

I'm not using the creative drivers either, cos i know they're kinda horrible. Any ideas?

Uninstall all your audio drivers. Download and install the latest realtek audio and HDMI drivers. Also install the creative ones. However horrible they may be , they work. I do the same stuff as you but nver had such a problem. Probably the issue is the lack of creative drivers..
