My seagate momentus 7200.4 500GB died reacently so I ordered a WD Scorpio Black 500GB to replace it :) , I have not received it as yet but I thought that I might use an old Hitachi 160GB 5400 for the time being.
Now a few problems are arising  :
    1. It is stalling on the Asus logo and the only way to by pass it is by pressing an "F#" key, and then it will continue booting!

    2. I got 3 messages so far while in windows that my hard disk is failing  and that I should back up my work !

Any help or suggestions as to the nature and solution of these problems would be greatly appreciated!

Load up a S.M.A.R.T. utility and see if your Hitachi drive has errors.

If not, maybe your controller or SATA connector is bad?

ok thanks i'll give it a try :(

I scanned the Hitachi drive with HD Tune Pro and the (05) Reallocated Sector Count status is failed, (C4) Reallocated Event Counter & (C5) Current Pending Sector have a warning status. Everything else has an OK status.

So does this means that this drive is also failing :( ?
Do u think it is the laptop that is damaging these drives ?
I do not want to put in the new hard drive when i get it and it also fails like these  !
    Thanks

It shouldn't damage the new HDD even if it is the SATA controller's problem. It sounds like your Hitachi drive might be bad though. Do you have another PC/laptop to test it with?
