Ok having a knightmare. Not impressed.
Ran a program that must have been a hard virus because I got a complete hard drive failure message and it was a blue screen but not a normal BSOD just in the top left - Hard Drive Error and then a black screen.
Restarted and it would not boot into windows it tried running system fixes and nothing worked. I try and hold F9 to do a factory restore at startup and it just makes a blip sound and restarts everytime I try. Tried running factory restore in command prompt and it will not have it.
So I had a random Windows 7 disc hanging around it picks up both HDD and my recovery partition and reinstalled Windows 7 fine however it for some reason only Disc 0 is registering in windows and not Disc 1 it is coming up as an unknown device. I guess this is either fried or corrupt so I will need to have a play.
Any idea how I can get my factory reset working - did I backup on disc no I was gonna do that last week, and the week before that and would of course do it before I had this problemidiot.

Your HDD bit the dust?
-
Can someone confirm what you do to enter Factory Reset on these G73's please im holding F9 but its just restarting itself as if its attempting to access it and failing. -
Well, maybe it was fate. The G73 is telling you "Get a purty SSD for me...so I can be one fast **********".
-
EDIT: Dont worry bout it the recovery partition is wack anyway gonna delete it and use this version of 7 Ultimate. -
If the drive shows up in windows and if you burnt the backup DVD's try formatting the drive with DBAN (assuming you have all your stuff backed up) - Darik's Boot And Nuke | Hard Drive Disk Wipe and Data Clearing

Partition is done for totally corrupt. Managed to get the HDD to boot but its running like a dog with 2 legs even after a format and defrag. Gonna replace it whatever happened it did it no good.
Wiped my other HDD and installed W7 ultimate and its running 10 times better than the crappy factory that comes with it along with not having any of the software problems either and creative for the first time ever runs perfectly. Fate is right. -
Are you using disc manager to reformat the unknown device?
-
Tick Tick BOOM! Lucky I had everything on my secondary anyway Ive made this my primary for now till my SSD arrives. -
if you can see the drive in the bios you could always recover (or try to recover) the data with Spinrite 6. But yea that drive is DOA, trust it as far as you can throw it.
-
So to bring this back up again. I lost my Factory reset partition in the process of all of this HDD mayhem.
I have tried to recover it but its most certainly corrupt. I have a dodgy version of windows 7 that im usinghowever, would really like to be using the version I paid for and came with my laptop. Stupidly I did not create the recovery discs.
Is there anyway I can get the installation again? -
I have the JH Recovery Disc on my page, silly.
-
I thought this was just the drivers I will take a look when I get home. Good work C.
Will this just install with my Windows 7 sticker on the back?
Im clearly a Hardware man not a software. -
You shouldn't even need to do the Activation
-
I have a ghost image of the recovery partition. I use the whole hard drive and if I ever need to do a factory restore, I blow away my primary drive and restore just the recovery partition. Then, I can use the boot keys to make it do it's magic. I would never run the factory install, but you know... just in case. Anyway, if somebody wants to host it somewhere I can upload it. It's three files and weighs in at about 12Gb.
I made it that way so I could archive it off to some DVDs if I ever needed the space. -
This is why I host the Recovery DVD, Jody
