OK, I am having some issues with my touchpad. It seems to lose its responsiveness every so often. And at the same time, it will start trying to scroll instead of simply moving. I've tried the Synaptics driver on the ASUS website and a newer Synaptics driver but neither has completely solved the issue. It has become more than a minor annoyance but I'd like to avoid another RMA (I had the KB light issue). Any other software-based suggestions?

ive got the same problem as you

removing, updating, or changing synaptics drivers never fixed it for me. so i just left it on

the best i could do is disable pinch zooming since that was the worst side-affect of the touchpad problem.

its like the touchpad is so FDLJFSDJL: random when it wants to be

That is kind of normal. When I find mine to be unresponsive, it's because the palm check it set too high. It thinks I am trying to type wherever the cursor is sitting and it is ignoring my input.

The scroll thing is to do with two finger scrolling. It's a large touch pad. Sometimes you'll be touching it with your palm very lightly while running your finger around on it to use it without realizing it. It will occasionally interpret that is scrolling.

I recommend that you use the latest synaptics driver and dig into the settings. I advise turning off pinch zoom and rotate, don't set the palm check too high, and decreasing the sensitivity of the touchpad so that you have to put a little pressure on it with your finger to get a response. It will be more accurate that way.

mine does that too. like said, disabling pinch/zoom helps a ton. but i just use a cordless mouse most of the time anyway.

I have the same problem with the touchpad - AND the skipped keys when typing. What a royal pain. I have scanned all the forums, tried all the fixes, downloaded new drivers, and the problem persists. I love the "fix" to turn it off - very funny. I have used touchpads on Dell and other computers for years with never an issue. The lack of response to this problem by Asus is very disturbing. I made a big mistake (read expensive) shifting to Asus from Dell. I think the only way to solve this problem is o offload this turkey and buy another Dell. And unless you are fond of forever trying to get the computer to work I strongly suggest you look at another brand than Asus.

I was going to simply reply that I too have this issue. But I have to interject, Jody that if you don't have the problem, then don't comment because you do not know what you are talking about.

Your commentary is just noise. I understand your wanting to help, but not everyone here is a kid or a new user.

I can confirm I have the EXACT same issue, in that during simple single-figure gestures it will randomly start scrolling, at like I went to zoom, or in general just not act like I have my finger where I have it...

To see if it was a "software" issue, I uninstalled the Synaptics driver and let Win7 just load the stock driver for the touchpad and when it freaks out with that driver you can see it literally jumping the cursor to the right like and inch+ on the screen, when you are attempting to bring the cursor left.

You can tell it thinks there is touching movement on the right side of the touchpad when that is not the case.

I really do think it is either a BIOS issue, or a physical design problem. It seems to work fine for a short period of time after a reboot, but then freaks out.

I beleive this is another indicator of the dreaded "missed characters while typing" problem. If so then a Synaptics driver isn't the fix, it needs to be addressed via BIOS or a physical fix. I really hope it is not the latter.

What the heck? I have had this problem many times. I'm trying to scroll and it's just sitting there refusing to move. Or I'm trying to move the cursor to click something on a web page and it's scrolling instead of moving. I'm not sure where you are coming from or going with that comment. I most definitely will not defend my help for other users to you. I also don't think I care what you consider "noise".

I will continue to help folks with their problems. There is an ignore feature on the forums that I have never used. Please feel free to use it. If you have some sort of heartburn with me, just send me a PM and we can flame away. In the thread, such discussions are just "noise". Also, bumping a three week old thread that only three or four people cared enough to post in to begin with is most definitely "noise".

I would respectfully request that you keep personal attacks out of the thread. If you've got anything disrespectful to say to me, send me a PM. Good grief!

Jody, there was no personal attack. I said your commentary was noise because you detracted from teh fact that people have stated they have a problem and you erronously reacted with a bit of "help" that left the impression that there was not a physical problem.

Making commentary like that will leave the impression with others that a problem does not exist. MORE THAN A FEW PROBLEMS EXIST WITH THE G73.

There are far too many people on here that try to make others sound like they just have a configuration or software issue. It is most certainly indicative of a problem with the keyboard AND the touchpad. They are both part of the same subsystem, that much is known.

Again, no personal attack, as I never called you names, or even attempted to belittle you. I stated a fact that your commentary was out of place as THERE IS A PROBLEM!!!

If more users didn't try to "fix others issues" on here when there is a major problem, then maybe Asus would be able to look at the threads here and determine what thier issues are.

The response of RMA it if there is a problem is something that most of us will do in the worst-case-scenario, and that is usually if the machine won't work at all. A lot of us don't trust service departments anywhere near as much as we would trust the manufacturing of the product initially because we have ZERO ability outside of a lawsuit to force Asus to make good on fixing our products without damaging it in other ways. Therehave been many reports of laptops coming back damaged physically when sent in for RMA. Would you like it if your lapto pcame back with scratches and marks all over it, the hard drives not bolted in, and whatver else the monkeys at the service depot forget to do properly???

The only reason we trust a product that s BRAND NEW is because if it isn't perfect we can always return it to the retailer. That is an immediate course of action that will result in at least a completely different unit, that again, should be "PERFECT".
