I dont think its worth , you can use that money to upgrade hd 5870m to 6990m , you can save huge $$$ by doing it./
I bet you can get the same alienware for 1500$. -

eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices
How do u think guys, it is a scammer or not? -
Man your the first person I have ever seen on earth that saying a person with 1000 + feedback as scammer
You can buy one on dell for 1500$ they have many discounts. -
It is absolutely worth the upgrade from a G73JH to an M17x. I am very happy with mine. My G73 is a great computer but my new one is even better.
That looks like a decent price. Please visit the Alienware M17X forum here on NBR and they will give you all the tips and tricks on getting the best price you can. You will not get that config for anywhere near $1500 but you can pick up a few discounts here and there and save a few hundred dollars if everything lines up right for you.
Again, the other forum will help you a lot. My Asus owning friends don't really want to hash all that out over here.
I still own a G73 and it's still a great computer so please don't think I'm Asus bashing here. -
Ehhhh. No real reason to upgrade, unless you HAVE to spend the money for a slight increase. What are you doing that your g73 is taxed so greatly? Also, if you *need* more horse power, why isn't a desktop an option?
-
Well the R3 makes it easy to upgrade and can tell you that you will have a better CPU upgrade + better battery life........and hmmm. Damn in a way the R3 is better. But it has its bugs to :/ been reading that the MOBO and CPU seem to up and die for some users.
The AW is much better compact then the G73. Yes the JH can be upgraded to a Clevo 6990m and it will work nicely. I would say if you have the money at hand then why not a R3 but if only want to upgrade the GPU then the G73 is good
Or as DCx said why not a desktop ? -
What about the link i gave for ebay? it sounds good or theres a trick? -
The trick is that its an auction. So you might end up paying 1900-2100 for it.
To me ebays more like a 50/50 when the seller does not have a buy now price. -
The ebay listing looks legitimate to me. I'm no expert on it. The price seems about right for a used R3. That's not the original hard drive I don't think. The smallest they come with is a 500. I'm guessing he had an SSD in it but threw the HD in there to sell it and is keeping that. I wouldn't count on that "9 months of accidental damage warranty". I don't know that the warranty is transferable. I would be surprised if it was. The only thing I can think of is that he plans on giving the successful bidder the login ID and password to manage the owner account associated with that service tag.
Maybe you could dig up the info on the Dell web site and see if the warranties are transferable.
I bought the 3D model in my sig for $2136 with one 750GB HD and 4GB of RAM. I then bought RAM and an SSD from New Egg and upgraded it. The price included two years of accidental damage warranty. Therefore I wouldn't go much over 1600 for a used one when I can get one brand new for that. The AMD GPU and non-3D screen would have been much cheaper. I think the 3D option was $350 and the NVidia GPU was $100 more than the 6990. Now that I think about it, that's a terrible deal. You could buy it from Dell for that but without the extra RAM and you can get RAM cheap enough for that not to matter.
However, now we have spiraled off into an Alienware discussion in the middle of the Asus forums so this is where I stop. -
Thanks for all the answers, i've decided to buy new m17x r3. You can close the topic now.

Clevo/Sager offer the same or more power for less price without the fancy lights. Unless you need $500 worth of fancy lights its the better option.
-
hehehehe, if you want an christmas tree then buy an alienware,
if you want real cooling and performance the Clevo/Sager is the one.
If I were you il wait for sometime till the Clevo P270WM comes out, its the world's fastest laptop that supports desktop i7 3960X and pcie - 3.0. -
It is a tank and will have fans similiar to what NASA use.
-
yes its a tank, and has nasa fans lol
I have an X7200 it seriously rocks man.,
its the same shape an all but it supports i7 3960x ,but mine i7 990x. -
I am far happier with my smaller Clevo version even though it only houses mobile CPU's and 1 high end GPU it is pretty much the same size as my JH but with far more to offer.
There is a desktop replacement then there is a desktop replacementIf I cannot rest my arm flat on the touchpad area then its not for me.

I don't think I would ever even consider a "laptop" that big. There comes a point where size really becomes a hindrance to mobility and ease of use and I think this illustrates that perfectly. For example I don't think it's possible to use this on your lap or in a tight space like on the subway. This is never really gonna leave the desk and when it does it'll only be to transfer to another desk. I'm sure there are small form-factor desktop PCs that can pack more power in the same amount of size and weight, not to mention cost less too.
G73JH upgrade to m17x R3 worth it?
