I have finally discovered that the Intel 6200n in my laptop (upgraded from xoticpc.com) is really slow downloading. I have a 6mb connection at my house and I'm lucky to get 1.2mb even though when I hard wire i get 5.6mb avg. Now at my friends house hes got a 16mb cable connection using my wrt600n and it still does the same exact thing 1.2mb down but the upload is always perfect. I uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled with the latest driver and I still have the same issue. I really need some help as this really sucks downloading slower than 100kb a second when i usually got 650+KB download speed a second. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Have you checked the card to see if one of the antenna leads is loose?

My 6200n hits its top speed of 300mbps

If you're sitting next to the router and it's still giving you terrible speeds, you need to check a couple things:

The router is actually on N only mode and not some G/N mixed mode - if you have G devices hooked up then you will never see full N speeds
WPA/WPA2 encryption (pref AES) is necessary for N protocol speeds, WEP will not do
Check the card is seated right and the antenna wires aren't loose at connectors

Your router might just suck too :p Hit up the networking forum here, they'll tell you to buy a wrt54gl for cheap G networking or an asus rt-n12 for cheap N networking.

Blame the wireless router first, then the card.

My bets are on the router.

Try resetting it back to defaults and messing with the settings in it's webgui setup page.

Try upgrading its firmware.... although with some router models this could make matters worse.

Dlink and Netgear have some of the best N models, although no router manuf. makes all the best, and each is going to have a some horror story router models.

Here's an interesting thing. My dads laptop uses N and he gets the 5.6 mbps down everytime i do a speed test along with my gf's asus netbook which uses N as well. It is set for the mixed wireless a,b,g,n on auto channel and I use mac filtering so there is no passwords or encryption of any kind. But this is here it gets interesting. If I disable wireless G on my 6200N and connect using G (54mbps) I get the 5.6mbps down at home and 16+mbps at my friends. I'm pretty sure it's an issue with the wireless in my laptop.

Anyone else have any ideas? I just find it weird that if I disable N and use G I get the 5.6 down and .62 up but as soon as I re-enable N and connects using N it's really slow and sometimes it even times out doing a speed test. I really really hope my wireless isn't defective. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    *EDIT*
And I want to be make sure you guys know that the wireless N in my iPhone 4, my dads XPS M1530, and my GF's EEE PC all use Wireless N and get the same speeds during speed test. 5.6mbps down and .62mbps up. Thank you so much!
