So i tried to overclock my G73JH and found some thread that refered to a video of a brit using AMD Overdrive in CCC to overclock GPU. I have v11.8 and realised that AMD Overdrive doesnt exist in that CCC version. I went on the AMD website and downloaded the software, installed it, launched it and as soon as i accepted the warning, got a BSOD.
Then i let my computer restart and 2 secondes past loading screen, the computer lockes up for 2 seconds and gives me another BSOD and says the culprit is "AODDriver2.sys"
So i go into safemode and try to uninstall overdrive but since i'm not in windows, it denies me access.
I then search my SSD for that file and find 2. I deleted both files, rebooted in normal mode and now my computer works fine. I uninstalled overdrive but i'm asking myself...WHY?
I though this would allow me to overclock GPU but i guess not, anybody have any ideas on what can cause the failure?
Also what can i use to OC my GPU?
-

I believe that brit might have been me.
Have you flashed the latest OD Vbios .93? You need to flash that before you can use overdrive and when you install 11.8 CCC package including all the drivers it will allow the option to Overdrive. For now use Driversweeper and clean out all of the ATI files and install the 11.8 package with drivers and see if the overdrive option is available.
Dont use separate packages they always cause problems.
I will be uploading my 920XM overclocking movie tonight and then post an entire thread covering all aspects of the JH overclocking as several bits and pieces are not covered in my posts and will cover everything to clear up any bits of information missed. -
If you haven't flashed a VBios with unlocked OD, then that is likely the problem. OD is indeed included in the normal driver package, it is simply not visible if it is vBios locked.
-
Heheh dallers the Brit!!! Love brits! uhmm i believe i am in fact on v.93...i flashed both when i flashed to 213 a few months ago, is this info covered in msinfo32?
EDIT: cant find it if its in msinfo32...is there an other way to see? -
If so then just uninstall all of the ATI crap and run drivesweeper and restart then install 11.8 from scratch.
There is an option in CCC for overdrive.
Your VBIOS version needs to be the same as mine.
-
yeah, it's the exact same version as you...uhmm so i'll try the drivesweeper and reinstall and get back to you within the half-hour
-
Alright, done everything you said, now i get this when trying to open CCC:
-
Ok so in this order.
1 Uninstall CCC software in Control Panel etc
2 Go into Device Manager and uninstall the display driver and delete the drivers.
3 Run driver sweeper and clean all ATI files - Restart
4 It should install a Standard VGA driver upon restart
5 Download this link from Chastity Driver page 11.08 WHQL
6 Install this and restart. -
OverDrive shouldn't cause a BSOD. I wonder if your flash of your vBIOS was bad? I would re-flash the vBIOS with OD unlocked once again also. Some seem to like Chastity's if they don't know how to unlock the vBIOS themselves.
-
how could vbios be bad if it worked well and never encountered any problem with my computer until today?!?
And it did cause a bsod as it said that the following file was a problem and the file was AODDriver2.sys" it's an overdrive file -
It only takes a few seconds to reflash it. Might as well eliminate the possibility of that being the problem.
Also your first OP post makes no sense. OverDrive is included in ALL versions of CCC including 11.8. You don't install OverDrive separately. Again this makes me think you don't have the proper vBIOS flashed correctly. Get the OD2 version from Chastity's website and use the directions properly with a bootable thumb drive.
I've used every single driver modded or not since 9.11 and every single one has properly working OverDrive. Whether they were modded by TWL, TweakForce, DNA Drivers or some random dude on Guru3D, ALL have working OverDrive.
Chastity's OD2 VBIOS, follow the directions to the letter. -
OP confirmed that he has the same Vbios version as me (.93) so I would recommend ruling out drivers first before thinking of flashing again with the same Vbios version as he mentioned in his first post he tried to install CCC separately which could have caused the problem.
Flashing for most of us is a simple problem free thing but when you get a bad flash your world falls apart and sometimes it is totally random. Always best to try everything else before attempting a flash in my eyes. -
ok dallers, did everything you did, CCC now works but i do not see any overdrive. Should i risk installing the standalone software or do you suggest anything else??
-
Its simple though as hulawafa says you just create a bootable usb drive, select this in the BIOS menu and type OD2 and there is a video explaining everything you need to know and a movie on Chastity's Driver Reference.
Modded OD2 Vbios.
Instructions.
I have flashed the Vbios 3 times and saw no problems at all. But the day I recommend it to someone is the day their laptop bricks and im hailed a villain -
do i put the modded OD2 files instead of the 3 files provided with the 93vBIOS zip?
-
It doesn't matter as long as you put the modded OD2 (fix_od2.rom and od2.bat) files on your USB stick. And run the OD2.bat in replacement for the original .bat file
-
i dont get it...
first you use the file sinside the win98boot to create a bootable usb drive
then there are 3 files provided with the v93 bios files:
u usually put those files on usb drive to flash vbios
if i understand correctly, you want me to do exactly as if i'm flashing to v93 but i ADD the files below to the thumbdrive?
-
or do i just add the files from od2 folder to thumbdrive, then boot from it and type in od2 in menu??
-
Add the files from the od2 folder to the thumbdrive. When you boot from the thumbdrive, type in od2.bat and it'll run atiflash but flash the od2_fix.rom file.
Since it doesn't sound like you know exactly what your doing. Please ask if you have ANY questions on flashing. There are very good instructions that have been already posted. Bricking a laptop videocard makes kittens cry -
All U need is the 3 files from Od2, if you look at the bat file it will call for the fix-od2.rom file. Yes to your question, type od2.bat at the command prompt.
You can always RMA if it fails -
(I HOPE) -
Guys i love you!!! it worked, i now have amd overdrive!!! yahoo!!! Those damn overclokers, imma join em now!
I love this!!! I went from P2216 to P2522 in 3DMark11!!! this is amazing!
thanks to dallers and all the other helpful people! -
Guess who was right? Well glad you got it working.
-
Yes your advice was correct in the end but informing someone to flash before looking at other possibilities is not a good idea and the problem the OP was facing was not specific to a failed Vbios it could have been driver related among other things.
Its a good idea to be cautious when providing advice in regards to flashing because one day someone will conduct a flash from your advice without understanding the possible consequences should it go wrong, then who is right or wrong.
+1 Rep non the less. -
I knew he needed to reflash from the get-go, Dallers
-
Im not suprised, Asus like to make sure they dont accept liability when things go wrong -
no, I'm doing the moving thing and packing, and getting utilities. I discovered Comcast is literally robbing the Residential customers on their services. For example, the Triple Play residential is $99 + $7/modem + $10 for HD for 12 mo, then goes up to about $160 after that, and with a 250GB data cap. The same service via Comcast Business is $99.99 + $5/modem. No caps. HD included. And no promo price. Stays this price forever.
And the complex I'm going to is basically a Comcast or satellite service only place. -
haha.
-
Yup you pay premiums here in Cali Chastity
but thats too bad about the ComCast, I am lovin my Verizon FIOs
-
Comcast also reserves the right to cutoff your connection if you bust your cap instead or charging you for the extra GBs...
In any case, you think you have it bad, check what it's like in Canada, most third world countries have better Internet plans than we do...
Back on topic, glad you fixed your problem. -

i know that maybe this isn't the right thread but still i'll try.I have dell inspiron with ati mobility radeon hd4330 and i've discovered that the fans are working only with 30% power using aida64.I've spent all day and night searching for a way to boost the fans but with no luck.So please if someone know a way i'll be very grateful for the help

Should you decide to get a proper laptop (G Series) and move forums your welcome back anytime -
thanks.I'm sorry for the silly question but i've just had the same problem as the starter of the thread then i started reading and in the end i've decided to ask anyway

hey daller, i was wondering, i overclocked my GPU to 825/1125 and i was questioning myself what do those clock actually mean?? i'm gussing 1125 is the max operatong frequency but what does the 825 mean?
-
Nvidia has Core/Memory/Shader in that order.
We just have Core/Memory. 825/1125.
The number amount stands for the amount of MHZ (Megahertz) Meaning one thousand periods per second.
Below is my GPU-Z. When you adjust the core clock speed it will increase the Pixel Fillrate (pixel pushing power) and Texture Fillrate (when multiple textures are needed on the one pixel) the core does the majority of the processing.
When you adjust the memory it will increase the bandwidth, the higher the memory bandwidth the better the graphics card will be able to retrieve data and textures from the Vram. You may see better results from overclocking just the core rather than just the memory. Overclock both and you see an overall increase.
800/1100 is normally a sweet spot for most. Stress test and bench etc to make sure you have no artifacts. All my info about GPU overclocking is in my (sig) if needed.
-
awesome, thank you...i understand now
-
Hey Dallers, as per your earlier mail
- between 1 & 2) need to restart (and if yes - safe mode)?
- can you help with more details on step 2 (maybe a link?)
- between 2 & 3) need to restart (and if yes - safe mode)?
- other than that: guess step 5 should be step 0 or a prerequisite ...
Thanx for all your help - also enjoyed your and Chastity's contribution on ROG GSOD forum.
However: I managed to download Chastity's "flicker" od2.rom yesterday - after quite some panic I found his "oups! update" - but that incident again made me aware of value in asking / reading / thinking / noting twice before engaging in "open-heart surgery" -
Preparing my own 2do list now for doing this tonight, WIP see below.
2 questions remaining:
Would you advise to reboot between 1 & 2 (maybe already done automatic?)
You suggest to delete drivers after uninstalling display driver via Device Manager - are you refering to a manual deletion process (e.g. as outlined here ? Or is this done automatically?
- Prep#1 Download Driver Sweeper here
- Prep#2 Download CCC_OC version here (from Chastity Driver page 11.08 WHQL)
- 1 - Uninstall current drivers through either 'Add/Remove Programs' or 'Programs and Features' depending on operating system. Need to select the 'ATi Catalyst Install Manager' from the remove programs screen and choose the 'Express Uninstall ALL ATI Software' option. Follow all steps until uninstall is completed.
- 2 - Go into Device Manager and uninstall the display driver and delete the drivers (how?).
- 3 - Reboot the PC and enter safemode by repeatedly tapping F8 quickly during the transition from POST to Windows boot.
- 4 - Run Driver Sweeper (see prep#1) and check the boxes for 'ATi -Display' - Click the 'Analyse' button. Find a list of driver remnants on system, click the 'Clean' button to remove them all. Wait for the cleaning process to complete and exit Driver Sweeper.
- 5 - Reboot into normal mode - It should install a Standard VGA driver upon restart
- 6 - Install CCC_OC version (see prep#2) and restart.

Hey guys,
I'm looking to unlock OD for my vcard as well. All the links for the .93 vbios seem to be dead??
Could someone please point me in the right direction?
Thanks!

Sadly Chastity is unable to provide support or advice on public forums at the moment or from her Driver Reference page because she requires ''training'' as per a new post that she had to put up on AsusROG. - Here
I personally find this highly amusing considering she probably knows more than half of the people who work for Apple and Microsoft put together however the worst case being it leaves us in a right pickle for our driver updates and advice
Here is an easy to follow link and instructions from AsusROG however it is not the OD2 update but will unlock OD this should help you.
The .93 Vbios - Here
Instructions - Here
@Gigaherx - My apologies I have literally only just this second seen that I did not reply to a question you had I hope you managed to resolve the issue without further assistance. -
-
Thanks Dallers, I'll try it out tonight. -
I downloaded the 93vBIOS.rar and flashed the vbios. No problems. I then installed 11-8_mobility_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc_ocl.exe next, (I did uninstall everything and delete all drivers prior to flashing...) but did not have any new options. I uninstalled everything and repeated the whole process just in case to no avail.
I then searched and downloaded fix.od2.rar, after flashing and then reinstalling the drivers again, we were good to go!
3DMark11: P2566! Nice!
Cheers.
