Hey guys, i'm looking for a second AC Adapter for my laptop so i can leave one at work. My power brick reads 19.5V 7.7A and all of the replacements iv'e found are 19v 7.9A.

i'm just wondering if that is enough of a difference where i shouldn't use one or will it be safe to use?

Or does anyone know where to get a matching AC adapter? (not a huge fan of the universal things)

    thanks guys :)

You can get one from Targus on Amazon etc. on sale around $50. It's a 180 watt PSU and has adapter for the G73.

    thanks for the replies.

i'm not against buying third party, i use then all the time at work for my customers, it's just the auto switching ones make me nervous and i'm wondering the voltage/amperage difference in the aftermarket adapters will be an issue or not.

whats your opinion? do you guys trust the Targus universal adapters?

Any quality adapter that matches the stock adapter voltage (19.5V), is rated for at least 150W (7.7A @ 19.5V), and has the correct size plug should work fine.

I own 2 of them. Works great for my Gateway P-7805u and my G73JH. :)

Targus adapters scare the hell out of me. My first one killed an Acer laptop I had (blew something inside, caused it to get really hot and actually ended up melting the plug), the second one I had shorted and started smoking (I was fortunately using it at the time and noticed the cord smoking), and the third one I had, for some reason it started getting so incredibly hot you couldn't actually pick it up. It got to the point where it wouldn't even charge my battery, just provided me with power.

That being said, I could have some bad luck, but I dunno. These replacement adapters cost like 80-120 bucks around here, and 3 of them have died on me. With my old laptop, I ended up buying cheaper adapters from eBay that usually only lasted a year (usually the cord came separated at the brick and started dying), but it was cheaper than spending 100 bucks on something once a year.

Use caution I suppose, I'd personally try to find an official one.

I bought the Targus one bwerblo2 posted. Seems to be doing ok so far. I think the cords are shorter, but it's stationary at work, so no biggie there.

And if you are indeed looking for an official replacement, the Asus eStore carries it. Tends to be out of stock a lot, so that's why I broke down and just got this one. Also, the eStore hands down has the best price on that official adapter. 150W AC Adapter w/cord

I know this is an old thread, and for reviving it I apologize. A number of weeks ago one of my dogs ran by my adapter and yanked it off a high place (stupid I know) and smacked it against the floor fairly hard. Since then its been making a sort of buzzing noise, and I think its the cause of my OC difficulties and general instability as of late.

I cannot find the Targus adapter. Amazon and other places that sold them for 50-70 seem to be out, and other random websites Ive never heard of claim to still have a few left but want to sell them at over 100. Can anyone find one or point me in the right direction of another 180watt psu that will work equally well with the G73?

EDIT: Found this for the G70, but not sure if it will work

I'm using a FSP NB150 next to the original one.
    Welcome to the PCICASE website!
It has 8 adapters. The white is the right one. The connector is angled and imo looks better. It has a blue LED which is more coporate to the blue lights of the G73 (little bit nerdy, i know :)).
I have payed ~30 EUR (~$41) for an almost new one.

That looks exactly like the stock one except for the FSP on it... even that pattern and blue LED (which my stock one has...) match.

I was kinda looking for one with a little more oomph* if you know what I mean

Thanks though, Ill keep that one in mind as a replacement :)

    Not exactly.
The stock Asus brick is little bit shorter but wider and weights 60gr more (without power cord).

    Asus: 775gr
    FSP: 715gr

The type of power connector is different too. The FSP uses the same type as desktop ACs (C13) ( IEC power connector).
The Asus is a C5. Just for interest :)

Uh. That is exactly the one I have :)
Your AC comes with the G73 out of the package?
The "stock" one is labeled by ASUS.
    No problem, but weird.

I've had my G53JW for 5 months and I have recently been having problems with the AC adapter. I'm not sure if its the laptop or adapters fault, but when I move the laptop around, the power connects and disconnects randomly. I think something is loose. Should I send it to ASUS?

They must have mis-labeled the power brick somehow because by my calculations from their own spec sheet I have come out to 120.08 watts which is a few watts shy of 150.

Still looks like a nice brick though. Even though it explains why it's the lighter of the two.

DC output at 19V is 7.89A which is 150W. :)

Ok, because on the site it was misinterpreted to me as 6.32A in the specs. I just wanted to make sure.

    Necro bump!
I'm from Belgium, and I need a 180W brick for my g73jh. I've looked everywhere for the APA05EU (european version of the APA05US), but couldn't find it anywhere (cheap, €100 is a bit to much).
Has anyone used another 180W brick for their G73 ? Lemme know !

I believe the Asus G70 180watt brick would work, but you would just need the right power cord. It is 5.5mm x 2.5mm which is the standard I believe. You might be able to find it cheaper though.

This place says it ships worldwide:

ASUS G70 Power Supply Charger AC Adapter 180W 19V 9.45A

You can get a Targus APA05US model or EU from ebay reseller. The difference is the power cable that is included, and uses a standard PC power port.
