Recently I noticed that when I use my machine on battery, then power down (at 40% capacity left for example), the battery is down to less than 10% after 8 hours. I remove my USB mouse and network cable (so nothing is attached) once I shut down. I am doing a normal win 7 shutdown so I know I am not going into sleep or hibrenate.
If I use the battery till it is almost drained (5%) I get about 30 minutes for each 25% of the battery's capacity. clocks are 125/300
I have fully drained the battery and recharged to around 97% (calibration) but this does not solve the issue.
    I am on BIOS 209

It seems something is draining the battery when it is powered off and not plugged in. Sorry to be so long winded, but frustration is setting in. Thanks Josea

Better to upgrade 211 bios first, it's very important anyhow.

about the problem with the battery do you connect the computer with battery to wall power ? or you just pull the battery and it drains alone, make sure you don't put it on hot place.

have you tried getting out the baterry for one day and after that putting it if it is drained?
just to make sure your laptop is reducing it ...

Thanks to all who have replied. X7007, Yes I connect the computer to wall power all the time. I normally never remove the battery.
Mite_Jan, thanks for the suggestion, that makes sense, if it drains outside the computer it is a bad battery. I am removing it now (It is around 40% anyway) and will check it out tomorrow.
Also I usually run the battery down below 10% (surfing, email) before charging it so I have not noticed the issue till now, the machine is 8 months old.
I will try the BIOS update tomorrow assuming the battery holds charge when removed from the computer.

i don't think it is the bios
    probably a bad baterry
i had my baterry took out for a couple of days fully charged and when i put it , it was full
also the baterry will drain if it is out too but not significant

ohh and yeah i am using the laptop without the baterry..except when i go somewhere and i don't have where to plug it

I heard that prolongs battery life.

But I normally don't take it anywhere I can't plug it in anyways.

@JOSEA: Try to check the part where the battery that connects to the circuitry of the laptop. Try to clean both (the metal on the battery and the metal where the battery connects to) with a clean brush.

Is it bad I haven't taken the battery out since I first put it in, 9 months ago?

I rarely used without AC power.

Thanks for all the advice. I have tried all of the suggestions but the issue persists. If I leave the battery out of the computer at 40% for 18 hours, it goes to 38 %. (so the battery appears to be ok??) If I leave the battery in and power down 8 hours later I was at 6%.
If I run on battery I get about 2 hours total, 25% capacity is used each half hour (this I am happy with)
PS Hwinfo32 show wear level at 33%

2 hours in total while 33% wear level? That's quite inconsistent. I have about 5% wear level on my JH-A2 while 100% lasts only up to 77 to 80 minutes

    ^^^^^
    JehutyZeroshift,
When I run on battery I set clocks in AMD clock tool as low as 125/200 for web surfing, email, etc (no games)

100% charge gets me 2 hour battery life.

I just contacted ASUS they told me to calibrate the battery. I already did this by turning off all power options in windows (hibernate, sleep), letting it run till the battery goes to zero and the machine abruptly shut off.
Then I plugged it in (did not turn it on) and waited for the battery light on the front panel to change from orange to green (about 3 hours)
Windows reported 99% at this point.

@JOSEA: Then that must mean that your battery would last long from 100% when it has a lower wear level. Try to drain the battery slowly (by running on battery saving and doing stuffs like just web browsing) drain the battery till the laptop powers off (try to modify the critical and low battery alarm level to 1%). Then after draining the battery till it won't power on, charge it now while the beast is turned off. Charge it to 100%. That should correct it's reading of wear level.

I've experienced that before where the wear level reached 25% on mine while it was 8% the day before. After I did what I have said, wear level dropped to 4%. Try doing this once every 30 charge/discharge cycles or maybe once every 3 months.

Battery at 80% and when I shutdown and look 8 hours further it is at 19%.
