    G73JH-A1 Wireless N not downloading at max Mbps

    ASUS decided to do away with the notebook forum so I will try to ask my question here.

    I have a G73JH-A1 Notebook:

    I'm trying out Comcast's 50/10 Mbps and while I have no issues when I am logged in through Ethernet, when I am on WiFi I will not get more than 22Mbps download. Anybody else having the same problem?

    PS. I have already tested my router with another computer and it gets 50/10 Mbps.

    That's an interesting question. I'm not sure as to the quality of the wireless adapters in the G73, but you can try running a network diagnostic to see if anything pops up (I think it checks both ends, you and the router).

    I am pretty sure that the router is fine. I tested with another computer and I was getting the correct speeds (WiFi and Ethernet).

    The point is to see if there's anything wrong with your adapter or even the router. The diagnosis might be useful in such a troubleshoot.

    The Atheros WiFi adapter that the G73 comes with has a max N speed of 150mbit. Many users have gotten the Intel 6200 as a replacement with allows for 300mbit transfers.

    There isn't any online procedure, because it's so simple.

    1) Open the bottom plate.
    2) Pop off the 2 leads on the Atheros Wifi
    3) Release the small side latch, and let the wifi card spring up, and remove.
    4) Put new wifi in its place, and fold down 'til it clicks int place (flat)
    5) snap on the 2 antennae cables
    6) close bottom plate

    The 6200 works solid here.


    An edit to Chastity's instructions (steps 3 and 4)...

    Unless this has changed since my G73 was manufactured, instead of a "latch" (like on the RAM modules), there's two screws holding the wireless card down. Remove the screws and the card will spring up to its angled insert/remove position.

    Well I upgraded to the Intel 6200 wireless N and from 22Mbps I know have 30Mbps download speed. It's not the full 50Mbps but its closer. Still trying to find out why I cant get the full bandwidth.

    which router do you have as well. There may be a setting that you overlooked that is capping your speed. what does the speed in your local area connection status window say?
