First of all, I usually follow all the threads for the computers but lately i've been falling behind so I don't know what the recent problems/benefits are for each laptop.
I'm considering a G73JH-A1 with:
Intel Core i7-820QM
8GB DDR3 1066
500GB x2 hard drives
4X Blu-Ray Read/DVDRW
vs the G51Jx-A1 with same specs as above minus the extra hard drive.
My main usage will be all-round usage. Gaming, school work, graphic design, watching movies and a great amount of multi-tasking.
Along with your opinions as to which one would be the best, in terms of the laptop with the least amount of problems (i.e. BSOD, crashing, freezing, etc) and which one is the most quiet laptop, when run on highest performance settings. Also, which one has the coolest temperature marks when running on the highest performance settings.
I plan to use this laptop very often, as in that it will be on A LOT (20 hours + per day).

At full blast, the G73 should run cooler/quieter.
-
Plus the 209 Beta BIOS fixes quite a few G73 bugaboos.

I've owned them both, and the g73 is only slightly larger than the g51. Considering the HUGE gpu temperature differences between the two, I'd suggest the g73 if the cost is the same. Also, the g51 looks a little gimmicky, especially now that the middle light bar is just a chrome piece.
I guess what I'm saying is that I paid $400 more for the g73 (over the g51), and I think it was worth every penny (Of course, I did get the g73jh-A2, and previously had both the g51jx-x3 and the g51vx-??).
Anyways. The overall size of the two is almost the same. The extra hard drive is wonderful if you ever decide to get a SSD as a boot drive (and if not, you could remove one and use it for an external drive)... the g73 stays about 10 degrees (Celsius) cooler than the g51, and the laptop case/casing on the g73 isn't tacky or gimmicky (okay, not NEARLY as much as the g51).
But you're going to get similar performance. They have similar keyboards. They will both "feel" exactly the same in regular usage ... and the g51 supports CUDA (which isn't a big deal unless you're a hardcore adobe premier guy). -
Oh. The g73 is WAY QUIETER. It's a HUGE difference.

Appreciate the feedback.
So I'm guessing the g73 would be the best choice for me. I don't use adobe premier much so CUDA (I have no idea what this is) wouldn't matter too much. I use adobe photoshop and illust a lot.
Just a few questions though, for the 209 BIOS fix, do I need to do this myself, once receiving the g73 or will it already be done?
What IS the 209 BIOS fix and what was the problem with the BIO before it?
I only ask about the sound and how quiet the laptop will run because I currently own the G1S-A1 and it always gets very hot and runs loud at full blast.
I assume the g73 would be a huge improvement to my G1S
