This has been a longstanding problem since I got my laptop months ago, and lately it's really been annoying me. Despite having my boot order changed so that my DVD is last, every time I boot up the thing with a disc in the DVD drive, it sits there at the initial ASUS boot screen for nearly a minute, spinning the damn thing. As soon as I hit the eject button, it starts loading Windows.

I know the easy workaround is to just not have a disc in the drive, but I have one game that I like to play that isn't on Steam or some other online delivery service. Any way to stop this nonsense?

try removing the cd-rom from the boot list.

I only had this problem when I was using a disc that was dirty.
