You have 1333mhz ram.

My BST7 came with PC3-10700 (Hynix). 2 x 2GB on the bottom and 1 X 2GB on the top-side of MB. This leaves me an empty slot accessible from the bottom panel. I couldn't find any "PC3-10700" so I ordered a GSkill 2GB PC3-10666 from Newegg. Link. I hope it works with the other modules okay.
EDIT: I installed the module listed above and it works just fine. Shows up in CPU-Z as PC3-10700, same timings as the stock RAM. Nice to finally have 8GB. Now for the SSD (should be here today!). -
I recently got a BST7 from BB.
If anyone is still keeping track, it has a AUO screen. However, the screen looks good, no issues that I read here that others were having. I will probably upgrade it to a 1080p one anyways. -
i wonder if this would work it the bst7 FRYS.com | Corsair.
if it work then we can upgrade up to 16gb ram -
Yes, it will work, but damn that module is overpriced. This is the same speed and CAS latency, but half the price:
Newegg.com - G.SKILL 4GB 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Laptop Memory Model F3-10666CL9S-4GBSQ
Really, any DDR3 1333 Laptop module will work; no point in overpaying for Corsair. -
True, it's not like you will be tweaking the memory settings like with desktop RAM, unless you have an Extreme.

wow after 30 mins trying to get registered to reply to this thread cause of the stupid technology review crap. someone needs shot.
Anyways i bought my g73jh-bst7 for the 1199$ price a week or more ago. Updated vbios and replaced the crap 5400 rpm drive with a 7200rpm 500gb scorpio black. I haven't had a single problem with gaming runs everything perfect and i play all day. So far i've played WoW, BFBC2:vietnam, l4d, l4d2, TF2,garrys mod, Just Cause 2, batman arkham asylum, and CSS with 0 problems or drop in fps.
I couldn't be happier with my purchase. best part of all the long gaming hourse still leave the palm rest cool to the touch. -
Just brought my G73JH-BST7 home from BB. Updated drivers and applications, did full recovery backup disk set. Now ready to play.
So far, so good! -

Thanks for the welcome! Gonna be busy for a while I think!

Hi! first post here. was interested in joining because of this thread. I'm gonna be having my G73H-BST7 from BB too. and for a refurbished laptop i got it for 999$. which is good. right? :|
What do i need to know when i get my G73h besides updating the BIOS? what's a GSOD? -
Wow. :| thanks bro!
-
Oh! and how does the OS affect gaming? since the laptop's gonna have w7 premium, would it be better if i changed it to professional?

My sister bought a laptop for me from bestbuy.com and it's coming in about 3 days or more.
I wanted to wait for the Sandy Bridge, but can't 'cos i badly need a laptop right now that can do video editing plus a little bit of gaming (i need portability since i'm always out). the G73H is the laptop that i saw.the issues are no big deal (i think i can fix it through this site), but i read from the other threads that 1600 x 900 is a no good screen.
I have a 1500$ budget. the refurb is 999$(it's got i7-740qm,640gb sata,6gb,and an hd 5870).
Should i just buy parts for my asus or should i look at another laptop? i think i can still cancel the order.
(Sister chose bestbuy 'cos she wants an e-store that she could go in to and just get the item)
And do you guys know any good e-store's in CA that my sister could look in to? -

....and so would a blueray player...but im just nit picking now....lol
-
Thanks josh22 and D.M! but with the extra cash left i plan to buy a portable 1tb. what parts should i invest my laptop on?
-
....then games...
-
"Corsair - Force Series 90GB Internal Serial ATA II Solid State Drive ". looks gewd. -
I'm the minority here, but I havn't found my OCZ vertex 2 SSD to be a huge step up from the 7200 rpm drive.
Maybe I don't play enough single player games? I'm always stuck waiting for someone else to load before I can do anything, anyways ... and my laptop was never "off" (just sleeping).
And yes, I've done all the tweaks, and it is running as it should be. I just don't "feel" the effect to be worth the $100 - I'd rather have bought a nice 5.1 headset or something ... -
-
If you want to spend money on gaming, NCIX has a sweet deal on a good headset, and if you don't have a gaming mouse, get one - now THAT was an investment I found worthwhile. I got a microsoft habu, but almost any razer mouse will be good. A rat 5 or rat 9 is a nice choice.
If you're living on your own, having a good wireless N router is nice - even better if you get one of these and use the usb port as either a print server or network attached storage ...
If you really want an ssd, you may like the upgrade. I don't find it as earth shattering as others. I think $200 will get you a FHD screen, and that's a nice upgrade too.
Honestly, My choice would be to pick up a nice pair of headphones. Though you can't get anything really nice for $100, if you can drop $200 you're looking at a pair of sennheisers (or beats by dre ... *sigh*). But for FPS gaming, a 5.1 headset is really nice. -
I think the first upgrade would be his Wifi unless he gets the Intel 6250 with his system. The Atheros solution drove me ill, especially since I have a Dual Band router, and can't use my higher speed rates.
For a mouse, I <3 my Logitech MX Performance Darkfield mouse. It tracks on virtually anything. And has 1500dpi option for leetness!

Hi i was wondering if anyone had the Specs for this computer? Ive been looking online and cant find them. I am specifically looking for the Max Ram it will allow in speed and size. Crucial.com does not have this model on they're site yet. Thanks Guys. Loving mine so far and i ordered the Momentus Xt drive for it!
Nvm i figured it out. -
Hello..i'm new to this. I just bought the Asus G73JH. It said 6gb ram...It had 3 exposed slots and 1 hidden (4total). I guess it was 2gb ram hidden and 2x2gb ram exposed. I took out the 2 x 2gb ram and replaced them with 2 X 4gb ram...now my system says 10gb. Why does the crucial site says maximum ram allowed is 8gb? Is it possible for my system to read 10gb, but only use 8gb?
-
can going beyond the specified ram allowance cause freezing/crashing?
-
If you were to go beyond the maximum amount of memory supported, the machine most likely would not boot or even turn on. -
Ooookay. weird thing happened. opened up my new G73jh, it prepared setup, and was now usable. popped up synaptics but i closed it, then this weird restart to something thingy appeared. i forgot what it's name was but basically it does a clean install reboot thingy when you press it. ignored it too so i went on and downloaded stuff that was supposed to optimize my lappys use. i did the ati crap thingy, in which i've read 5minutes after that you're not supposed to do. then installed sound driver, ati, was about to do bios and vbios, but i didn't have a usb at the moment.
so after everything i restarted the laptop.
then it went back to starting up windows! but the things i installed were still there. but the installer for the realtek sound card popped open, so i re installed it again. restarted. same thing happened! but this time i checked out the program that i've been ignoring. i pressed something like restart for new user. or something like that.
starting windows again, but this time the setup is when you clean installed your OS.
the things i've installed are present, but the files that i've downloaded ( the exe's etc) were now gone.is this ok to ignore? or should i redo everything again?
and i tried rating the laptop's performance. these weird artifacts showed up and gave an error something like display crashed but recovered. then i got a score of 2.0 lol -
was playing starcraft 2 and using the CPUID temperature monitor and it show my ati at 79 degree C is that bad . i only had this laptop for about a month . should i go ahead and repaste like other

Hello Everyone! I purchased my G73JH BST7 from Best Buy in March 2011 for $1099 because they offered a a WIMAX deal with RoadRunner that I have yet to initialize. The cost for the RR WIMAX plan is $40.00 a month. I am not using it. This lappy ROCKS! I upgraded the hard drives with 2 SEAGATE Momentus XT 500GB, still need the extra drive caddy tho... I'm running the stock ATI drivers from ASUS, don't need to flash VID BIOS, running with BIOS VER 211, everything is running so smooth I am very, very HAPPY with this lappy. ( will purchase Intel 3rd Gen SSD for primary HD soon...hehehe)
-
Update your video drivers. I am running 11.4 with the stock Vbios. You will see nice improvements in games with the new drivers.
-
(thinking the beta drivers are.......well, beta and I will need to update to the official release eventually) your thoughts? -
I don't see why they wouldn't work and if they don't you can always roll back.
-
xxxERIKxxx hasn't grasped onto the idea that he has a 1st revision card and thinks everyone's is like his. -
Well if what you posted in the other thread was correct then I have a second revision card. C14 here.
-
Then you have an oddball 2nd rev. Congrats. Your card is the exception, not the rule.

G73JH-BST7 refurb for $1059+20 shipping with free 1.5tb drive (probably a 3.5") at newegg.
Newegg.com - Recertified: ASUS G Series G73JH-BST7 Notebook Intel Core i7 740QM(1.73GHz) 17.3" 6GB Memory 640GB HDD 5400rpm DVD Super Multi ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870
Fair price considering it has a 740qm (vs 720) and a free drive.
Should sell out quickly. -
I just received my piece in myhand which was shipped to Bangladesh last week, instantly updated the BIOS & VBIOS and now it kills like Ares himself!
By the way, does anyone know that this BST7 model support SATA III?
Loving this lappy!!! -
Don't think so considering the chipset hasn't changed.
-
Installed CCC 11.3...........no problems. I have been playing CIV V and it runs very, very smooth, Steam works with no problems, this laptop is a joy to own, right out of the box!
By the way, Thank you everyone on this forum. I have found some very knowlegable people on here and may the lappy Gods smile on you all. -
Is there a quick guide on these forums for Installing a new HDD? I thought I've seen one, but a quick look through the "read before posting" topic yielded no results.
