I am purchasing a desktop replacement and it is definitely one of these. I already ordered the N61JQ-X1 off of Amazon 15 days ago and it still has not shipped, so I can still cancel. The question: what is the better deal? I came up with a pros and cons list since my budget is supposed to be $1000. The N61JQ-X1 is $969, while the G73JH-RBBX05 will cost maybe $250-300 more. Now, I'm not paying for this (my parents are) and they are not too bothered by the price, but I'm the one that feels a bit guilty. Anyways, I want this to last me at least 3-4 years (definitely throughout the rest of college) so I want it to be relatively future-proof. I definitely want a good graphics card, but I'm honestly not too sure how much PC gaming I'll do (but I do want the option).

    G73JH-RBBX05...

    Pros:
    - bigger screen: 17.3" screen
    - higher resolution: 1600x900
    - bigger hard drive: 500GB hard drive
    - more memory: 6GB DDR3
    - better graphics card: ATI Mobility Radeon 5870

    Cons:
    - No USB 3.0
    - No E-sata
    - $1199 + 7% tax (5% bing cashback) VS $969
    - Heavier: 7.5lbs
    - No bluetooth

So if you were in my position (where you didn't have to even pay ), which would laptop would you go with?

I like the bigger screen. But my daughter is in College and like's to carry small laptops. I bought her a 15 but she wants a smaller one :(. I let her take it back and get what she wanted. Depends on if your packing it a lot I guess.

I'm in college as well and I was originally carrying around a 15.6" laptop that's almost 3 years old now. But now I have a netbook for classes, so the new laptop doesn't need to be lugged around nearly as much hence the reason I don't mind the large screen (my dad is the opposite, he hates bulkiness).

Going with ASUS G73 you will have top of the line single GPU at the moment, the ability to put an extra HDD, 2gb more ram, and better resolution screen.

You can add bluetooth with dongle.

If you're using this primarily for gaming and aren't concerned about the size then the G73 without question. I have a N61JQ-A1 and I love it, however I ship it between classes, work and home. It's about the largest size I would accept.

depends on how much you care for battery, etc?

But since you are just not bothered about the price differential, then you should go for 'GEE SEVENTY THREE' :p

Lol if you guy the G73 don't buy from RETAILERS lol. Buy from resellers such as xotic, powernotebooks, or gentech or something. The best buy G73 is compared to what the resellers offer.

If you feel guilty about it, get the $1000 from your parents and pay the extra $200-$300 yourself.
You're a adult start paying your own way.

That's exactly how I feel. My parents did say this is the last laptop they will buy for me. If they weren't okay with the price difference, I would've paid it, but they had no real problem with it. And eek, the thought of me as an adult actually intimidates me. I still look and feel 15-16 despite having turned 19 this month :(

But anyways, I have decided to get the G73JH. I have canceled my Amazon order yesterday and have the G73 on hold today. I did tell parents I will pay for the tax since I decided not to wait to see if BB will have it online.

    I'm excited

You wont be sorry you did Lumina :) ... I exchanged a G60vx for a JX.. then the JX for the G73 ... I could not be happier with the quality of the build and the performance!

I thought the gtx 260m and gts 360m were excellent performers and played all my FPS games fluidly at high/ultra details and 1366x768... They got pretty warm, especially the 360m. I dont know how they do it with the 5870m but the exhaust that comes out the rear of this beast, its only warm... no where near as hot as the G60's heat

I dont get what you're trying to say. Could you retype, or could someone interpret this for me? Is he saying to NOT buy from bb, cuz of crappy quality, or DO buy from BB cuz of good quality. Obviously we already trust buying from xoticpc.

    Thx

Yeah I don't get that either. Either fast typing and no proof reading, broken English or drunk  :D . But I've been going back and forth with the A2 and BB one. Only difference that bothers me is screen quality. The memory can be upgraded later when it's cheaper. Single HD or Blue tooth doesn't bother me.
I would think the resolution would be fine but many ppl complain about anything not hd 1080p if given a choice. Some ppl say the gaming would be better on the lower Native res?? Dunno. Nothing around me to compare to yet. Just crap in the stores. I keep telling myself to wait for Gentech to get mine in stock since they are a good co. But if there's one close to me... :(

Let me see if I can interpret this:

Lol if you buy the G73 don't buy from RETAILERS lol. Buy from resellers such as xotic, powernotebooks, or gentech or something. The best buy G73 is weak (maybe?) compared to what the resellers offer.

I just have to keep reminding myself not to play English/grammar police here, as there may be a large number of folks on this board who have English as a second or third language, which I find pretty impressive. Then again, there seem to be an awful lot of people these days w/ English as their first language who cannot type and/or spell and/or form a complete, correct sentence. Those folks, I'm not as impressed with, but I try to keep those thoughts to myself. It can be awfully entertaining at times... :)

I believe that gaming at the native resolution of the screen, which usually produces the best image, will result in higher FPS for the lower resolution BB model, especially as games get more and more complex in the next few years. However, I'm not much of a gamer, and am looking to get a desktop replacement machine w/ FullHD and BluRay so I can entertain the idea of selling my PS3 and possibly my 60" big screen home theater system and still be able to watch BluRay content in true 1080p format, albeit on a smaller screen.

Which is the cheapest retailer/reseller in terms of price+shipping+tax, if shipped to Cali (Rosemead, CA to be more specific). For any model notebook (g51, g73, n61)
