X1 is the best budget way to go if you don't need a laptop bag and mouse. Newegg is only charging 42 dollars for overnight shipping, which means most of you b@stards will have this before me! :p

Also, it only comes with a 1 year warranty so it may be beneficial to look into warranty extension options...

haha! Good thing we both pre-ordered already sleey0!

Now it's back in stock! Wth!? They must be selling them as they unload them from the truck! haha

I think you can return it within 15 days, but there is a 15% restocking fee. ouch.

Also, I just realized your avatar (avaturd?) is sitting on a toilet bowl! LMAO!!! I've seen your avatar a 100 times, but never noticed that minor detail. :D

Not sure I'd buy from the egg as you can't return if needed.

If they sell out right away you know they'll raise the price. Newegg is famous for it.

So the X1 appears to be available. The main difference between that model and the one that's backed up from other resellers is...?

Man, this is tempting. I've got my Sony F but fell in love with this laptop when I saw it last month. I just couldn't wait because I'm too impatient. However, being at newegg + overnight shipping = ????

Amazon pulls those shenanigans too. I talked to a newegg rep when I was trying to buy a Dlp tv through them that sold out. I wanted to get the price it was listed at just an hour before, but he told me no. He said they "have a complex algorithm that detects supply and demand on products" and cannot be over-turned.

Only 1 hard drive (500gb). Only 1 year warranty (instead of 2). No bag. No mouse. Good deal!

I would always recommend going with a reseller on this forum, but if you need it now and it's back-ordered that's another story.

    "Complex algorithm"

Probly some jack-a$$ sitting at a desk squeezing every last dollor out of inventory ;)

And, no, you can't return Asus systems at newegg. You can get a replacement if defective, just no returns for refund.

Yes. That gpu in the Sony F is painfully gimped (in my opinion). It is designed very nicely but the G73 is so much more bang for the dollar.

The up side is that Sony tends to hold it's re-sale value very well in the second hand market, so you won't take a complete bath on it.

To get a 2 year warranty on the X1 (1 year Asus + 1 year Service Net) it will cost an extra $70 and it takes us to $1500 (no bag, mouse, 2nd 500GB or free shipping).

At Egg prices, for another $100 ($1600 A2), you get backpack, mouse, 2nd 500GB and both your warranty years with Asus. (no free shipping option currently, so add $16-19 min.)

At a reseller price, A2 is $1549 with free shipping options. An A1 (blu-ray drive) costs only a little more than total cost for the Egg to send you an A2.

Of course your patience level, location and sales tax should be greatly considered with where to buy.

Just to break it down and make it even more simple. for $99 you can add 2 additional years of coverage to an X1. This will make it 3 years: a.k.a identical to what Resellers are selling for for an add'l $89 to make it a 3 yr warranty.

This almost makes them an even deal if you were planning on buying an additional year from a reseller, $/yr covered. However, if you don't plan on buying an extended plan the resellers base 2 year coverage and accidental coverage is superior.

The warranty does not matter any computer is obsolete within 2 years maximum. I usually upgrade both my laptop and home PC every year.

I am looking for the technical specs to add a second hard drive (probably a SSD!!!).

I am also looking for a compatible Blu-ray replacement drive but instead of jumping the gun I am going to wait until it arrives tomorrow so I can inspect it thoroughly.

So does the X1 have one 500GB HD in one bay and the other bay is available?

Was thinking to get the X1 and then buy the Intel SSD.

Looks like it's 3rd party through Newegg, who then contracts out to an authorized repair facility. I'm guessing it's not global, but I'd check with them for sure.

Ok guys- anyone have a link to the Intel SSD you're all talking about? I haven't kept up with the tech since it's a bit too pricey for me currently.

Ok I just called the Asus support group, and the said the X1 was USA version. The lady did not seem very knowledgeable on this laptop, and said the other HDD bay was not available. Again, she seemed confused on this.

Werry333, how did you confirm on the HDD bays?

Newegg. I also called ASUS and their rep said they did not know.

Newegg says all three models are identical in basic hardware and construction.

The A2 has a warranty, fancy accessories, and another hard drive.

The major hardware is identical according to NewEgg - ie ability to have a second hard drive.

According to ASUS they don't know. I went with the word of the people that have the item in hand vs. a tech support person at ASUS who said they don't know.

I disagree about NewEgg (Amazon.com too I swear I keep the two companies in business lol - I'm in a NO sales tax state though for both companies so they are very cheap for me).

I have always found Newegg honest, and willing to provide decent customer service.

I can think of only one time I got pissed at them in the past few years, and it was on a price drop issue relating to the GTX280 desktop launch fiasco.

They eventually gave me store credit for the difference when I got a manager to go back through my account and see I was a valuable customer.

They are not perfect but they don't lie - at least not in my experience.

But the reps may not know and might quote whatever is on the website, even if it is wrong.

My 8 years of dealing with them, it's extremely accurate. OOS means OOS and In-Stock means In-Stock. The only time there was "inventory lag" was last years' "Black Friday" issues... But during "normal" circumstances... It's virtually real-time.

    Cheers,

    Very accurate.

Within an hour of a sellout it will be reflected on their website so only a few that ordered in the last hour may have their order delayed, if that happens NewEgg will not charge your CC, so no worries.

I like the Egg too, but what they are known for is jacking the price when there is high demand.

    e.g. X1 is now $1449.99

up just $20 from this AM, so it could be a lot worse
