If you use paypal it takes longer than if you just used ur CC. When I was talking to a rep, they said it takes an extra day just for paypal. But for me it just takes maybe half a day.
My friend just ordered the x3 too. Should be getting it on Tues, hopefully these new batches will be just as good and with the 1333 ram.

I just got my G73JH-X3 from Tiger Direct. Its the new batch and I'm probably one of the first people to get the new batch cause when I ordered it it went out of stock.
I'll update this post while I open it
Pictures:
First Thoughts:
- Unlike dkillone I got my double boxed XD (did you complain to them dkillone?) I'll upload pictures later.
-
Awesome, Glad you got it double boxed
.
yeah i complained to them as soon as I could. Mainly it may have been ok, but with how many dents my box had, it shows why you shouldn't single box a laptop box.
Great Pics btw, glad to see you got yours pretty quick too.

yup, 1333, lookin pretty consistent so far for the X3. I know there truly isnt much of a difference, but it's nice to know you have the better ram.
-
@IceDragon7-could you give a break down on the deal. What was the Bing Cash back like? 10% or 12.3%?
TIA -
Yup, still avail. Just took this SS.
-
Around April 24th Bing Cashback went up to 14.5% for CompUsa, but it only lasted for one day before going back down to 8.5%. And back then the price was $1549.99 for the X3.
Boy, do I regret not getting it then, but it's not in my nature to jump the gun on online purchases especially of this price point. It's not the first time I missed out on a deal by second-guessing myself. -
I can't get from CompUSA, they tax in Texas, so while I know its all one company(TD,Comp, and Circuit City) only place I can buy without taxes is TD.
14.5% would have been nice for some though, shame it only lasted one day. -
Updated my first post with more thoughts, read if you like :>.
-
K, my friend got his X3 today from TD. Still has the Kingston 1333 ram and the Hanns LCD and came double boxed just like IceDragon7's did..
The main difference are the Seagate HDDs vs mine having Hitachi, and the PSU is made by FSP not delta. So far everything has been running good for him, he has the same amount of backlight bleed. So it seems to just be the only negative to this 1080p screen so far :\. -
Thanks for keeping us informed. Even though you can't tell, there are plenty of lurkers who revisit these G73 threads.
A bit of bad news for those on a budget who were thinking of buying one though: After many months of 12.3% CB, Bing has finally decided to lower CB to 8.5% for TigerDirect. Not a good sign for me as I was waiting for Bing to go in a more positive direction in order to finally take the plunge in ordering one. But with a $50 price increase and a large chunk of the Bing reward taken away my hopes of getting a g73 has been diminished quite a bit. This would have been the first laptop I've ever owned too. Maybe it's for the better since I don't really need to own a gaming laptop anyway. -
Ahah, I just double checked, and your right, it did go down. :\
I'm sorry to hear you didnt pull the trigger while it was 12.3. Thanks for telling me though, I guess I'll have to edit my first post. And who knows, maybe sometime soon Bing and TD will be 15%, I believe TD does 15% more often than any other electronic store online. So there's always a good chance of getting that.
Wish ya the best of luck! -
Ok, I just saw this laptop dropped back down to $1550. If you bought it for 1600, give Tiger Direct a call, I just told my friend and he got 50 back.
They told him it's not their policy, but they did it anyways. Goodluck, and just be nice, he did it pretty quick, so I'm sure there was no trouble. -

Hey dkillone, you did a clean install of Windows 7 am I right? Do you think that was necessary? Was it indeed fast?
-
I really feel it was necessary, even after cleaning the bloatware/all the apps I didn't want it still felt sluggish. Pausing every now and then when using winrar, lagging in a sense that it would take half a second to minimize after I clicked minimize(sometimes), etc.
Dunno, maybe it was just a bad install to begin with. But I've had plenty of factory installs work perfectly fine on other laptops. This one though was the worst I've seen/felt. I did use the recovery partition twice, and it was exactly the same both times.
So I'd say, if your system doesnt feel as snappy as you expected, do a fresh install and only load up the necessary drivers. I know for me, I got a immediate 250-300pts boost in 3dmark06, games felt better and overall the OS was tons more responsive.
It was much worth it for me, surely it has to be around the same for others. -
Yeah, I definitely noticed a difference after I did a fresh install. Even now that I have way more stuff on it than I did when I got it, it's snappier and all around more responsive. It takes some time, but I'd recommend it.
-
Yea I also did a clean install. It felt very sluggish out of the box. I checked before I uninstalled, there was a total of 77 or so processes out of the box. After uninstalling most of the visible bloatware, I was still at 65+ processes.
I did a clean install and now its running smoother than before at 52 or so processes. -
hiddensanctum Notebook Evangelist
loll...well I guess I should take some time to clean install this thing then.
-
You can actually still bring that number down too. I'm sitting at about 47 and thats with Mirc, Xfire, Firefox, AMD GPU tool, HWMonitor, and 2 other random apps. I think on bootup I get about 37processes.
I may do a guide on tweaking the processes, dunno yet.
One of the big things was cutting down Asus's ATK processes. I found that Hcontrol.exe is the only one you truly need to run for all the FN keys to work. You dont get a OSD when you use the buttons, but for me, I rarely use them. And the main one I use is the KB light. Which I dont need a OSD for anyways.
All-in-all, I still dont like how they use like literally 5-7processes just for the FN keys, wish Asus would spend some time optimizing it all into 1. -
Yea I'm thinking about uninstalling some of the other Asus software that I installed along with it. Not many things you really need really...
-
And to add insult to injury, TigerDirect Bing Cashback just went back up to 15% today (May 07), but when I click on the Cashback link and then go to the X3 it specifically states that it is ineligible for any cashback. Grrr....
Seeing the 15% made me scramble for my wallet with excitement too. x_x;; Balls.
Update:
The A1 and A2 still seems to be eligible though.. Hmm. Wasn't planning on getting one with blu-ray. I'll ponder on the A2 for a while.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -

I guess its a bit funny now that I started a thread for the x3, and once this goes back monday, I wont even own one.
Really hope to have no issues with the A2, still can't get over how good of a deal it is right now. $1367 after bing and shipping, either way, the X3 isnt much different than the A2 anyways, but getting the bigger HDDs and a backpack/mouse is always nice. -
do anybody have issues with the brighness function keys?
it works after restart but once i unplug the ac power sometimes ONLY the brighness keys do not work ..
strange thing is if i change the brigness to the lowest and plug in the power the screen dims and vice versa.
the icon shows the slider being reduced but not the brighness .
even tried changing the brightness from windows power options but does not work .
the sound , the back light keys and other keys do work.
not a major one but .... -
God damn, an A1 for $1460 at TD with cashback AND it ships same day to boot.
I am seriously considering canceling my preorder from xpc as waiting for the laptop is painful, especially if I have to wait a month. -

Well the main thing was the GSODs, which, I know. I found a fix now for that, but I had already called, and got an RMA # and pretty was set on returning it before then.
I might have kept it, even though to an extent, I havent made note of it, my Bezel is showing the LCD a litte on the left side. Its not a big opening, but I can easily see the light bleed thru it.
So, I was contemplating on sending my x3 back or not after I did the vbios fix. But Since the A2 just so happened to become available, and 15% bing cashback at Tiger Direct. I felt there was no thinking anymore. I paid 1360 for my x3, I'm paying 1367 for the A2 that comes with 2x500gb hdds, a backpack and a mouse.
So while I'm not having any major problems anymore, I feel I made the right choice and maybe the more laptops Asus sees coming back, the sooner they will get on a official fix for the GSOD problem that seems to be quite widespread. -
dkill one, do you think your issue was directly related to it being an X3, or was it just bad luck with hardware/software?
-
Well, so far pretty much all G73JHs are the same internals. So pretty much any probs I had could happen on the A1/A2/X1/X2/RB05/RB09/and the Euro ones(forget their models). Apparently, even the PSOD happens still, so this problem worries me some since if it does, there is no way of fixing it yourself since it's a hardware failure.
So I dont really blame the X3 model. I am trying for another G73, but mainly because of the bigger HDDS, and the extras. Else otherwise, I would have held off on getting a G73.
I'm worried my A2 will have the same problems, but as long as they are fixable, I will certainly keep it. If not, I may sway away gaming notebooks all together. My luck has been really bad since Nov. Im getting incredibly tired of getting a laptop to only have to return it 2weeks or less later. -
Ok, i need some help. I have the X3 and I am really confused with the partitions. Is there someone that can help me? I have not really dealt with partitions up until now, and could use some help. I am already running out of space on my C drive, and I still have cataclysm to install in december, and am kind of freaking out. Please help. Feel free to email me at [email protected]. Thanks in advance.
-
Mate Just go start, right click on computer icon and click manage... Than click storage and disk management.. u can than see the 2 drives and destroy all the other partitions and make a bigger one.. just back up your data and don't mess with the one with the operating system.
