I rmb reading it is super hard to upgrade the cpu urself.
920xm I also rmb isn't worth it since the G73 doesn't have TDP to support a high overclock rate or something.

8GB ram is definitely enough. you will also need to check if upgrading beyond 8GB is usable because I think it is also affected by your CPU.

someone correct me if I am wrong

haven't we gone down this path first? The i7 CPU's can take 16GB and even 32GB of RAM if u got a ton of money...

I installed a 920xm on my JH when i had it so im sure a 940xm will work just fine ... Some people had issues with getting the system to post the first time without a certain stick of RAM removed on the first boot with the new CPU but i cant remember all the details now...

CPU upgrade on the g73 is just as easy/hard as a CPU upgrade on any other notebook. Now, some asus notebooks are EASY, but the g73 is pretty much on par for most notebooks.

Sorry DCx but that's not true.
To get to the CPU and the GPU in the G73 you basically have to take the whole laptop apart.
Let's say you have a CLEVO or MSI(random brands that come to mind) you take off the bottom panel and everything is right in front of you.No taking off the keyboard or MOBO or anything like that on the G73 to do upgrades. I wish it was easier.

Installing a 940xm is not a problem and works really well, it's just a bit of a pain in the butt to do. But as you can see from the screenie this cpu rocks and will let you overclock your heart out.

Sorry IKAS, I guess if you're used to boutique notebooks, the g73 is pretty tough to take apart.

But if you're used to toshibas, HPs, dells and lenovos (big, common brands that come to mind), a CPU upgrade almost ALWAYS requires a full disassemble. I can't think of a single consumer notebook and only a couple of business ones (not an enthusiast/gaming notebook!) that has easy CPU access. True, the g50/60 had really easy access ... but generally speaking, the g73 is actually easier than most laptops that require a full disassemble.

So, not difficult to do (unless you're used to working with laptops that are meant to be frequently end-user upgraded) ... just time consuming.
