    Hey there everyone...

Last week I did a repaste on my G73JH and think I may have killed it :(

I've disassembled two others in the past: replaced a bad GPU fan, and a repaste on another one. Unfortunately after reassembling mine, things aren't so great.

When AC adapter is plugged in, the adapter immediately shuts off and I can hear what sounds like a "pop" as soon as adapter plugs in/makes contact. To get the light to go green on AC adapter, I have to unplug and let it sit a minute or so.

I disassembled the machine again, removed everything down to just the MB with same result. Even removed GPU, CPU, and all mem modules!! Charger tests fine with voltmeter.

The idea of buying a new motherboard just to find out the CPU or GPU is also dead doesn't sound like the best idea, so I sent it to a place recommended for component level repairs just in case. They also say dead motherboard, but can't tell whether the other parts are good. At the same time, how can a system be diagnosed if no power is making it to the board? Could it possibly just be a faulty charging jack?

I have no way of testing GPU and CPU if I wanted to part it out also....

    Opinions anyone?

Have you tried to run it without the battery and only on AC power and also vice versa with the battery and without AC power.

That would point to the adaptor or the jack.

If both do not turn on make sure your Wireless cables are not over the power button located top right of the motherboard its easily missed because its small and round that is a common problem when people reassemble they leave the wires over the power switches and it prevents the laptop turning on.

Repasting the CPU/GPU would not cause this problem because even if you applied no compound and didnt even put the heatsink back on it the laptop would still turn on.

I've tried with/without the battery installed and with all cables removed. Also have removed top cover and pressed power button directly.

There is another reset button on the CMOS battery on the underside of the motherboard, you could try resetting that by using a pin and see if that helps.

Try pressing on the power button for more than 20 sec, release and press again. Do this without the charger and battery. Maybe some electricity left inside, it worked me for a few times when I had sudden power cut from the plug and unable to start right after.

sounds almost like a short somewhere. I'd possibly re-seat the chip, but usually power issues like that point to an internal electrical short somewhere.

Another common issue is that the Wireless antennae get caught on the Reset button during assembly. If the Reset button is depressed, it will not POST.

This machine was disassembled to just MB after it failed to take power from ac adapter / shutting off ac adapter as soon as it plugged in. I've decided to replace charging jack. If jack doesn't fix it, then replace MB and hope nothing else was fried.
