Are there models around with GDDR3 instead of GDDR5? I've been thinking of buying this laptop, but all the models for sale in Finland list in the specs that they are GDDR3. On Asus's own page only GDDR5 is listed.

Example here. It's in finnish, but you can see the specs. And yes, the price is ridiculous here.

Something's wrong with the ram listing:
It should be 8GB for that model, if that's supposed to be the A1, rather than 6.

    Edit:
    Also, HOLY SHI-
    2609.90 € == 3236.0150 USD
Sure, you get the 820 rather than the 720, but DAYYYUUUMMMMMNNNN

It feels like you're shopping for a mac, of all things...

He's asking about the GPU. It should be GDDR5 since all the G73 models available here in US has GDDR5. I dont know why it has GDDR3.

Full model is G73Jh-tz054z, and all the info I've found on foreign sites say that is 8GB, 5870 GDDR5 and 720QM. But all the sites that sell that model in Finland list 6GB, 820QM and GDDR3.

So confusing, maybe I just order it and see what comes out of the packet..

EDIT: Found the same model, G73jh-tz054z, in a Swedish reseller. They list it GDDR5, 3x2GB and 820QM.

I know, but there are several inconsistencies:
    GDDR3
    6GB Ram
    i7 820QM

That is a mystery. Why not just buy it from here and import to your country. Its cheaper and better quality. The price is just insane.

    I'd be wary for now...
They're coming out with the G73JW soon, which I'd think would drive down the price of the inferior-ish G73JH.

The price is not an issue for me, and I could always sell that G73JH and buy the JW model when it comes out. And I'm buying it from Finland if it is GDDR5, mainly cause I'll get it sooner that way. I just don't want the GDDR3 cause it's a waste with that 128bit memory bus.

It should be error in description. Mobility HD5870 never been released with DDR3 on board. Price is too high, as I know Asus G73 is selling for 2500$ in Europe. If you are in Finland, you can buy it from Russia. There price of it 2500$.

Got the laptop, specs were right on everything else but the GDDR and DDR3. GDDR5 and DDR3 1333 on board. Odd thing is that it only has 3x2GB but it's easy enough to add an extra 2GB.

Modded my vBIOS and rolling on 800/1100 clocks via overdrive. Had to drop the voltage a bit, but now I'm running pretty cool and stable, 97 max on furmark, stabling around 94.

lol the g73jw won't be superior. If it does have the 480m, then it'll be slightly faster... with no room for OC and extremely high heat output. The notebookcheck.net review of the 480m is quite underwhelming. While it might be slightly better out of the box, with 10 minutes and an internet connection, an OC'd 5870m will still be superior.

All this assuming it gets the 480m... which it might not. If it doesn't ... I don't see how the jw will be better than the jh. Just different, I think...
