I bought my G73JW a year ago and it was working fine until a couple of months ago. It started to suffer from ''fps spikes'' everything just freezes for a couple of seconds, no matter what I'm doing, and more often when it's running games.

I've tried to update all my drivers and and installed different ones without any change.
    I have updated my BIOs from 2.0.3 -> 2.0.5
And last week I noticed something strange, if I record my screen using Fraps, these spikes and freezes rarely or never occur.

I'm sorry if there are relevant threads to this one.
Any related answers are appericiated, thanks :)

    Hi there,

Strange that no one beat me to this post ;)

Whenever there is something effecting the performance and it is not software related look at the hardware, most commonly the temperatures.

Run HWINFO and fire up the sensors when you run the program and check your idling temps of the GPU and even your CPU because it could be related to that as well. Then run a graphical intensive game until it starts spiking exit and then take a look.

As a brief example with your model you want CPU idling temps of 40-60oC and at Load 60-80oC and GPU Idling temps of 40-60oC and at Load 70-90oC. The CPU Max is 100oC GPU is 110oC. Anything above 90oC really needs attention in the long run. Post back your results but at a guess they are probably going to be very high and that could be causing your problem. Quick fix is to use compressed air and give the vents a good blast to shift any blockage of dust or dirt. Worst case scenario you may need to consider a repaste.

Otherwise consider cleaning your drivers and reinstalling the latest release.

Hey there Yiddo, thanks for the reply.

    These are the idle temperatures:

Here's the temperatures while running MW3 on Highest Graphic Settings:

    Hope this helps, thanks :)

Well those temps are mighty fine so it cant be that. Although strangely HWINFO registers very low clocks when it is under load for some reason, this was on AC adaptor right?

I assume as you only have 2 cores you are running an I5? What version? Your CPU is only using 10watts which is considerably low, in fact lower than my netbook ATOM CPU at a guess i would say that you do not have your CPU set to high performance or that it is not allowed to utilise 100% of the CPU. Go into the battery settings and switch that to 100% usage and high performance.

Have you tried to uninstall and clean your drivers using drive sweeper and then reinstalling then from scratch?

I rarely go on steam im afraid pm on here if you need anything.

Check the CPU though I think that thing should be running higher than 10watts and it could be set to power saving or something.
