Quick Update:
Nuke, think you are onto something here... Don't want to jinx it.. but..
First time in a long time, went to sleep, and woke up to an unfrozen, un-crashed and un-powered down laptop today.. Not a single error in event log since turning off cpu idle state.
Can it really be some amazingly simple, and unbelievably stupid, detail (missed by both Asus and Intel), that the random crashes and lock-ups are caused by the stupid C1E idle?
If I hadn't seen your post, and then saw how pervasive it is, I wouldn't even have this small victory. Thanks, and hope it sticks.

To the poeple who the disabling "idle processor" fixes their problems. What kind of Wireless card, Ram and hard drive do you have? Do you happen to have touchpad problems? I wonder if the power state is crashing with some hardware there...
-
Had 1 crash, was a write error to dvdrom during backup, is more of win7 backup just being a disaster than anything else(5+hrs/dvd). Backed up with Macrium after hotfix was useless as well, took about 15 minutes..
Anyway, I'll copy a system report with with device/drivers/lastest avail. at the end.
Using stock wireless, Intel(R) Centrino(R) Advanced-N 6250 AGN; 6g stock ddr3 memory, unsure of manufacturer; stock Seagate ST9640320AS 640g.
I have had no touchpad or keyboard issues. I have many out of date drivers, as I have been fearful of turning a finicky machine into a brick, but for right now, I don't know if I'm inclined to update. Think I'll sit with this stability for a while. New experience for me.

I tried the suggested method to disable core "parking" with limited success. Although the random freezes seem to have stopped (haven't had one in 3 days now, a new record!), just yesterday afternoon the usb ports froze. How has it been working for you so far?
-
I haven't tried the idle park suggestion. The USB freeze was my first issue after buying the JW. Then came the hard freezes and random reboots.
I have not a SINGLE one of these errors since disabling the processor idle. This has now been at least 2 months.
When I get a chance, I'm phoning ASUS with my data, I'll give them a link to this thread, and see if they'll RMA this thing. I suspect it is hardware related. -
OK, I am trying the "no cpu idle" tweak suggested by jeeves. I reenabled the processor idle option.
The idle whine is still somewhat present, although only slightly audible.
3 hours so far, no issues.
We'll see...................... -
I've had tried the "disable cpu docking" tweak before, and been trying it now, and I'm still getting bluescreens and freezes. The only thing that stops them is having a 3d program running.
Would be great to know what Asus would have to say about your problem, wishfully hoping for it to be fixed with firmware or some software tweak. -
-
Just an update, box is still running near flawlessly a month later. The few crashes I've had have been application related. Still find it simply stunning that such a glaringly obvious conflict, observed across so many platforms, with Intel on one end, has not been corrected. Perhaps a design flaw in the chip that aside from disabling the usage of C3 state cannot be otherwise avoided... don't know enough about architecture and processes.
If you are crashing for unknown reasons, Highly recommend trying this out. -
Tried the "no cpu park" tweak............have had no issues since, and I am not using my "cpu idle disable" tweak.
Laptop running pretty decent, and a lot cooler.
I think it is fairly obvious there is an issue with the cpu idle and some people's laptops.
Regards. -
only did the disable tweak for a day though
before I did "no cpu park", I let run some applications in the background to prevent cpu idle. now it's definitley more comfortable^^ -
Glad to see it's working for you. I really have to talk to Asus about this, I just never seem to have the time.
-
I wish the core park disable worked for me. I've used it since months ago and I'm still getting the bluescreen and freezes (one of each today).
Disable idle still does the trick though. -
I had a BSOD USB Bugcode error today. I have not experienced any hard freezes though.
I am wondering if the usb bugcode is a separate issue?
At any rate, my laptop is much more stable, and the temps are more pallatable. -
I think anyone having this problem should try KB2529073 and see if it fixes it.
Windows SP1 was causing problems with USB devices on certain computers. The G73JH that I own had a problem with the bluetooth shutting down. This new update fixed the bluetooth problem and I have a hunch it may resolve your problems as well. -
I also strangely had my first few crashes the past few days.. and had my USB mouse freeze in middle pf session for first time since I disabled parking. I had a major issue with iTunes update (what a POS program that is), and also had run a new reg cleaner, so fairly obvious reasons for my issues. had to do some uninstalls, etc...
Finally fixed it all, rolled back about 10 days to bypass some recent updates, and will wait and see how it goes.
Not running SP1 here. Far too many headaches I've read about for about zippy in actual useful updates. I'll wait until I do a complete system re-install before I let Windows muck up the system worse than it already is for no payoff.. -
-
BTW, the core park disable tweak is stilling working WELL!! -
Ok, so 2 new issues I have found.
1st, started reviewing my dump files, and noticed I have been getting USBPORT.SYS bsod errors, 0x000000fe, 1st parameter 5. (These date back to when I first bought the box last Nov) From what I have been able to research, this is a physical USB port problem, that only has RMA as a recourse for correcting, as it requires a new MB. If anyone has come across this and has input, if I have the wrong info, that would be great?
The second is more of just a note, I did finally install SP1, figured I didn't have anything to lose really. All went smoothly, though I was curious if I should uninstall and reinstall KB2529073 to ensure all USB paths are updated?
Otherwise, no issues since roll-back, aside from the bugcode USB issue. The error has occurred 8 times since last Nov, so about once/month on average. It really has not been a big issue for me, but am curious if others think this is something I should be RMAing for...??
Hope all else is well folks. -
I added a couple of more features to ThrottleStop lately to monitor and help block some of the C States. I'm not sure if doing this will reduce the lock up problems but it's worth a try.

Well, back to the same old issues. I am starting to really regret buying the asus.
I am getting this error alot: from the event viewer:
Log Name: System
Source: ACPI
Date: 01/08/2011 8:37:24 PM
Event ID: 13
Task Category: None
Level: Error
Keywords: Classic

Description:
: The embedded controller (EC) did not respond within the specified timeout period.
This may indicate that there is an error in the EC hardware or firmware or that the BIOS
is accessing the EC incorrectly. You should check with your computer manufacturer for
an upgraded BIOS. In some situations, this error may cause the computer to function incorrectly.
Event ID 13
Anyone know what this is? -
Event ID 13 Source ACPI
For starters, I would open up a Command Prompt with Admin rights, and run
sfc /scannow
This will check to see if you have any corrupted drivers and components
It's also been suggested that you may require reinstalling the chipset drivers. I would download the current INF from Intel as an installer, and run the installer from a command prompt:
infinst_autol.exe -overall
This will force the installer to redo every component. The USB hotfix for SP1 is also a grand idea if not done already. -
Just giving an update here. Two weeks ago I was still getting daily freezes and bluescreens despite a lot of attempts to fix them, but since I installed the KB2529073 update ninrocket suggested they have seemed to stop.
I'm not sure if this helped to fix the issue but I also uninstalled the usb controllers and let them reinstall. I'm also using the Intel Inf and the non-park adjustment, but I was still getting freezes when I installed/enabled them.
Now I've been 2 weeks without a single hard freeze. Still not sure if its another placebo effect, so I did wait till the second week, I want to see if this patch has fixed the problem for anyone else, so we can finally celebrate. -
If you haven't locked in 2 weeks, then you are ok.
-
Reported again, started getting freezes and bluescreens with increasing frequency, now getting them daily D:
Is there any new info from asus? -
Ask yourself, what changed when it started freezing?
-
okay.... after a long while, got 2 freezes today
I did a system restore to before the last win update. let's see whether or not this helps...
P.S. It was 'Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB915597 (Definition 1.111.490.0)' -
Few days before I had probs with bluescreen, nearly daily.
But then I updated my vBIOS and deinstalled some stuff like Power4Gear.
Since that I never had probs with freezing and bluescreens... -
-
Has any one tried uninstalling .net framework? The last updates for my system were that, and that is when the freezes started again.
-
Hi all. Thought I had problems before, during all my messing around I somehow got the Sasser Worm, Lsass.exe variant.
This thing has actually overwritten my Master Boot Record and locked up my Hdd. Says I need password then shuts down or locks on spot. BIOS also overwritten options grayed out and 'new' shell options added. It had also hijacked my router, using udp mostly, but using aliases under every program I've had the past 10 years, thanks to my legacy desktop.
I'm almost hopeless, and hope you can advise. Have Seagate Momentus, with Ata password (I think) stored on Hd itself, though with MBR and BIOS overwritten, can't tell for sure. It's blocked all access to network, I'm on iPhone atm.
I can't get past bios w/ hdd on to even reformat or restore. It's remapped the onboard mem sector, virtual mount, and I'm no cmd line expert. Man I'm tired, hurricane not enough, dealing with this between outages. Just want to somehow regain access to Hdd and write/pass the the thing 10 times and begin recovering what I can.
Chastity, if you happen to read this, I did create your install CD, maybe a tool there that can help?
Thanks all. -
You can fix the BIOS with a full BIOS reset using the reset button. I would then do a full clean install.
-
Well, my G73JW keeps on crashing, generally when not in use, but on occasion, when in use.
I have tried the USB kb update, reinstalled INF drivers, disabled the C-states in the registry at least (no option in BIOS).
The only thing that works is my CPU idle disable tweak.
From the event viewer, I get this error when the system crashes:
Log Name: System
Source: Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-Power
Date: 30/08/2011 2:11:40 PM
Event ID: 41
Task Category: (63)
Level: Critical
Keywords: (2)
User: SYSTEM
Computer: SmithFamily-PC
Description:
The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.
Event Xml:
Event ID 41: This error has become rather widespread among the users of Windows 7 64-bit. It often occurs in connection to the usage of Intel's C-State-Technology. There are a couple of other reasons though, such as bad drivers and/or faulty hardware. I also experienced this type of error due to manual overclocking of the system. If this error occurs on a regular basis you should try setting any overclock-related settings back to normal aswell as disabling the C-State-Technology. If that doesnt help you should run hardware tests in order to make sure it's not because of faulty hardware, especially RAM. If the hardware seems to be in a healthy state start removing unneccesary devices, especially wireless network adapters, to see if the problem persists and possibly isolate the responsible device. Unfortunately many wireless devices come with pretty bad drivers for Windows 7 x64, if you can even get them to work at all. In general I dare say from my experience with various machines that in the vast majority of all the cases in which this error occurs, overclocking/c-state and/or bad devices drivers are the reason, only in few cases it's actually because of defective hardware or an unsufficient power supply unit.
I have run /scannow as suggested, got no errors reported.
Am I right in thinking this is bad hardware? Is there any reason to suspect a Win7 reinstall will fix this?
Thanks. -
-
Well, I finally RMAed my G73JW to Asus, just got it back today. Took less than 2 weeks, so I'm a little impressed.
They replaced the cpu. So far, no eventID 41s - I am guessing the cpu was a little flaky and having power issues.
I am now testing to see what happens, not using any of my previous tricks, want to see if that solved the problem.
nuke -
Well, back 1 day after RMA and already a BSOD and a hard freeze; I have a G73JW.
ASUS replaced the cpu under warranty during the RMA, and also reinstalled the OS. So those aren't the issue.
My problem again is:
random freezing, reboots, and BSOD (usually a USB bugcode error).
These events are always accompanied by an EventID 41 in the event viewer, which is a "Kernel Power" critical error, with the message "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly."
As I've explained before, this issue does not happen when the cpu is under load (it maybe happened under load once or twice, but very infrequently), almost ALWAYS when it is sitting idle, or doing "idle like" things such as email or browsing.
This problem goes away with my cpu no-idle tweak, but that ramps up idle cpu speed, and heats up the cpu.
THOUGHTS??
I am thinking motherboard, or maybe the power pack. Not sure it would be powerpack, though, I would expect crashes UNDER load, not under idle.
I am going to RMA again, but wondering if anyone has thoughts on how I should approach ASUS on suggesting what the problem is. I would have thought they could check for a bad mobo.
They claim on the report RMA sheet they stress tested my laptop for 1 day with no crashes, but like I said, usually under stress this issue doesn't happen. I left it idle, boom, hard freeze.
I really still think the problem might be in the power saving functions, I'm just not sure how.
Please let me know your thoughts.
Thanks.

Hello! Has any one here tried disabling c1e via throttlestop?
I've been running it on my laptop (c1e and eist disabled) and also been purposely letting in run overnight with the less programs I can, and I haven't had a freeze/bluescreen since the last Friday. I'm just letting this out so we can do some collaborative testing.
I had been getting freezes and crashes still. I found out there was a stuck process hogging my cpu and stopping the frequency of my freezes (a cache thing from .net), but I wanted to search for a more proper fix (and one that let my laptop run smoother) -
Another BSOD today. USB bugcode error.
Could my problems be the result of bad USB implementation?? -
Well, an update on me freezing issues:
I have RMA'ed by laptop twice. My experience with Asus CS was EXCELLENT, very quick both times, and they replaced practically EVERY component in my laptop except the HDD and the memory, albeit with the memory they checked it twice, each time the memory was ok.
So, that said, you'd think my freezing issues have gone away.
Well, err, no.........
I am utterly convinced the issues is with Bill Gates, or more specifically, the piece of "software" he calls Windows 7.
I also believe that both my "freezing after idle" issue and the "usb 2.0 ports not working after idle" are a subset of the same issue with Windows 7.
I have searched long and tried different things:
1. applying various MS hotfixes;
2. removing all Asus "bloatware";
3. installing new nVidia drivers;
4. disabling gadgets;
5. I have disabled ALL power saving features;
6. I use a blank screensaver;
All to no avail. When the computer is idle for a long time, randomly it will freeze - usually the screensaver freezes, sometimes the usb2.0 ports are frozen (but the touchpad works), or the system reboots (or a BSOD).
Since the RMAs, the reboots and BSOD seem to have gone away, but the usb2.0 freeze resurfaced after a long absence, and the laptop has frozen at the screensaver after a long idle period.
I will say, the length of time the computer sits idle before a freeze does seem longer now, but it is nonetheless very annoying.
Here is a good post I found with many MANY people with the issues I describe (no apparent solutions, though):
Windows 7 Freezes when Resumed from Idle due to Screen Blanking
I would appreciate if this trigger something with anyone where there is a solution (I realize the above thread is old), that would be great.
Other than that, I guess I only have two things left:
1. Is to do a clean "boot" by disabling everything in msconfig. Of course, this would only tell me if something "is" an issue, but not what. I should point out I have very little other software installed.
2. Do my own install on Windows 7 after reformatting the hard drive. Can anyone explain how I make a bootable DVD using the Win 7 DVD image I downloaded from Asus Rog forums? Right now, I don't have a burner program on my laptop, so I'd need a suggestion (preferably free program!!).
Thanks.

Morning Nuke,
Nuke, as between us, and many many others, we have explored just about all things that would 'naturally' be occurring to cause these issues, let me perhaps turn this another way.
Quick update to my post from Oct, (been very deep into diagnosing this box ever since) and this is the new direction. I have been having absolutely Absurd malware issues. This all began in the summer, and is still going on now. I have done, man, can't even recall now, but at least 15-20+ Full, Fresh, Clean installs of Windows on this machine. I have engaged assistance from some of the brightest minds I have access to, from Kaspersky and BitDefender multi-tier tech support, to Bleeping Computer Senior Instructor and highly respected member of the malware tech community. All have come to the same conclusion, there isn't a report of anything to be found... however, the behavior of the machine is unbelievably suspect.
From immediately after install, cascades of 'special user' accounts created, event reporter service being shut down for 5 minutes here and there, firewall closing and reopening, messages from firewall being quashed, services being 'hijacked' and admin account not even able to take ownership, let alone start/stop or disable the service.. to MMC access being denied, ports opened to all, no auth required, registry keys/branches being denied to admin account, to ultimately seeing all of my accounts either password locked, or completely deleted, no entrance back into OS...
Oh, and all of this taking place while all of the 'reports' say everything here is fine and dandy... Seriously, this is beyond messed up. What I'm trying to get at, is I think there may be a Major Vulnerability either in Win7, which I deem highly unlikely, or in G73J boxes somewhere, much more likely. Could be a driver, a hardware component, firmware, but something is there.
Now, it could again, just be me and my box that have some sophisticated piece of really nasty code hidden, but seriously, I am a ZERO value target, I have no financial assets of any value, no CCs to hijack and run around the world on, credit is mediocre, so noones getting an amex black on me... and don't work in any sensitive area.
So, there is no reason to target me so voraciously, and at this point, it would have to be actual targeting, no? I have changed MB, HD, Updated BIOS, 203, 209, 212, installed from 3 separate OS disks, factory, regular and with SPK1, and each and every time, the results are the same. I have blown out the hdd, boot sector, zero'd out 5 levels deep. Again, some of the top people have 'concluded' there is nothing here, but cannot explain for a moment the malicious behaviors exhibited.
Can anyone of you remember a time when you restarted your computer to find all of your accounts with incorrect passwords? Even an account you created just before that very reset... Can any of you remember logging in to find all of your accounts gone? Are you locked out of services? Is your Security branch of your event viewer locked, access denied? Are normal tasks disabled, while other auditing tasks created? Do you have access to Group Policy Service, can you disable if you wanted to? Dcom? Task Scheduler? RPC endpoint, Plug and Play? These 5 are always denied to me, even from the moment of fresh install, and basically they are the keys to the kingdom of the OS, no? What can I not do with master control of these? Can't think of a thing, I can do anything, load accounts, give and take away permission, load drivers, control access, secure communications, limit, modify comm, and set up an audit system to recognize any assault against me. Keys to the kingdom indeed, just sucks!
Here is a scary one: Have you ever gone into your BIOS and seen a wireless shell loaded into the boot order??? I mean, I don't have a clue how I would even go about doing that, yet there it was... As well, apprarantly it's about as difficult to hack Award BIOS's as it is to open your 5 year old's piggy bank. Turn it a few times until the plug underneath loosens, voila! I'm even afraid to reflash now, as the last time I tried to do it, with a fully legit file, used before, it crashed, brick time baby. I think that once into the bios, they mess with the flash mechanism, ensuring failure. Same goes for installing a password. Without knowing what's been done to my BIOS, I'm afraid of bricking this by meddling. (IN my OWN BIOS, so frustrating..)
Chastity, in case you are willing to read this book, you mentioned above a 'red button'?? to reset BIOS? I have not wanted to rip all the way into this box, but at this point, not a whole lot left to do... I understand the BIOS battery is soddered onto this board, but what, do they have a reset button to disconnect power instead of removing the battery? Do I have to go in through the top, ripping out keyboard, or is there access from the bottom? Thanks!
In the end, this malware doesn't exhibit the slightest care in the world if you reformat, replace, etc... again, not typical, most want to hide and come out to play when you're not there. This thing is like a a bull, aggressive, but you go your way, he goes his... Until you wave a flag in it's face, then it's on! And he's coming at you to run you out of the ring so he can go back to what he was doing, or just gore you and force someone else (reformat) to try him on for size... Nice metaphor, eh
Oh, and by the way, this has been taking place after I have unplugged ethernet, and REMOVED, physically, the atheros/wimax card, only little antenna wires left behind. (One thing I am not sure of, is if there is still a wifi ability imbedded to the board, maybe that is still allowing backdoor access.
I have auditing policies galore, none of which I can adjust, disable or delete, access denied. connection rules overriding all others, cannot change. the list goes on.
The reason I mention this, is seriously, how can this be happening, from a fresh reinstall, with Zero outside access to computer from hard or wireless connections, unless there is something physically on the board, either unadvertised, or offer some vulnerability, that these extremely smart and creative white-grey-and nasty black hats are able to use and abuse.
Are they piggybacking an unknown Bluetooth. Are they riding along the simple wireless mouse signal? Is there some combo of firmware/connections and components that are allowing a mock wireless connection? Is it some crazy set-up that happens to work particularly well with the G73s?
Yes, I sound a bit paranoid, but read what I have been through, for Months, the steps I have taken, and you tell me if it's not time to view the paranoid arena with due diligence, or should I just through this box away? Tell ya now, can't afford a replacement, so solving is the only alternative.
Prime example: Fresh Install factory settings: Trend Micro 2009 on board from start. (No, none, nada, Zero internet connections) It immediately begins flagging, and I mean from the moment I click the prog from first second on past logon screen, 20-30 unauthorized system setting changes (accounts modified, registry, etc). I tell it to reverse them, another dozen are found immediately after, but within seconds, the program is frozen, system is forced to restart (also captured in event log, system sent a stop order to the app, and a restart order to the OS). Restart, everything appears to be running hunky dory, but of course, no more unauthorized changes taking place... The program has been neutered, neutralized, rendered inert and useless.
This has happened to Bitdefender, AVG, Avast, Spybot, Adaware, Kaspersky, SuperAntiSpyware, etc etc. If the program can't be rendered useless, it's just killed entirely. It will never be allowed to be installed. Same for AV tools, good ones like Combofix are just derailed, and system responds aggressively, locking out more controls. Most are rendered innocuous. Oh, and I have found, while persuing the registry, instructions on how to reset all attributes on all system files to the same exact thing after use. I mean, even if I, myself, access them, I can pull up attrib's and it won't even show me as last user, nor willl the date accessed change. Always, always the same, which is why, I think, no reports ever find a thing...
So, in essence, what I am wondering, has anyone else seen anything funky like this taking place? Obviously not to this degree, or you would be at AV forums and security help teams like I have. But perhaps you haven't looked at your event logs recently, or checked your services permissions, tasks scheduled. I mean, I went the first 8 months of ownership without noticing a thing. It wasn't until it screwed up, and used too many of my resources that I was aware of it.
I always found it interesting I could never get above 4g of ram usage, no matter how far I pressed the system. Well, hard to do when there's a 2g Ramdrive created. (Using bst7 myself, 6g on board)
Anyway, having done just about anything and everything, with some of the top people in the field, currently being lifted beyond single technician, tier 2&3 at Kasperksy, being assigned to a team of their top folks. We're entered the rabbit hole now, and anything and everything is going to be examined.
The reason I post this back here, other than perhaps getting some insight from other folks who know this box better than I even after all the crud I've gone through, as well as to say, check your event logs, check your registry, check your users folder... do you have a duplicate default user folder? one hidden, one not? (red flag)
I think that many of the USB freezes, system freezes, may in fact be malware related, based on a system vulnerability. What hacker cares if they lock up our computer, if we're playing a game or working on a project... they don't. And they apparently don't give a hoot if we reformat, replace major components, etc... as they are able to just hop right back through whatever door is opened wide to them. I think we may, possibly, have a major USB hole, and that is why we have this problem so ridiculously more often than is possibly explainable, across almost all users, and apparently uncorrectable. Have you gone into device manager to see how many duplicate drivers you have in PnP (hidden devices). Especially for USB? Check for duplicates and running comm devices, bet you find some that really shouldn't be there if you are having unresolvable system problems.
Thoughts from a non paranoid person, believe it or not, but someone who has been forced to look outside the box, as all the usual suspects have been ruled out.
Hope you all have a great weekend.

jeeves,
I can fairly certainly say I don't have your issues. My issue is pretty specific, even if it occurs randomly.
I have disabled all power functions, including display off, and I am just running the "blank" screensaver, which only engages after 15 minutes.
So far so good, but as this error occurs so randomly, it is hard to ascertain.
I am sure Chasity is right, the issue is a software conflict, but given that I've tried uninstalling bloatware, and have very little other software installed (and no "shady" software), the issue to me must be a driver issue or a MS services issue. -
I have the g73jh and i've been having these problems for over a year. When i leave my laptop running while i'm away it will lock up and freeze and i have to hard reset via holding the power button down. This does not happen all the time but it can happen about 3-7 times a week. I also tried disableing all power functions, including display off, and tried running "blank" screensaver but it still happens. Sometimes the laptop don't lock up but all usb stops functioning, mouse won't work or my usb dongle won't pick up but touch pad does. To fix this i have to reboot my g73 but i have to hard power down because if i select restart the screen will say shutting down but never does. I just can figure out why this happens. My g73 does not overheat nor does it throw out a blue screen, strange.

Voyagerxp, I had a similar issue (JH), mine was locking up like yours but while I was in sleep mode. NO lights would flash, the KB would not respond ...
I removed RAM modules until I isolated one that seemed to be the cause. -
Thing is i left it overnight running mem test with no errors. Could the ram me faulty even though i tested it with mem test.

Reporting again. After having a laptop that freezed around every 2 days (when it didn't freeze contantly during a single day),
I'm running throttlestop and limited it to the C1 state, and my laptop has survived many full-nighters during these 2 weeks. There are no high temperatures as with the idle-disable tweak. Again recommending it to the ones with the random freezing problems to check if this works for them. -
Never used throttlestop or idle-disable tweak, how are these used.
-
Can you provide a quick tutorial on what you have done? By throttlestop, I assume you mean the program. What settings did you use? I have downloaded throttlestop, but have not installed it.
Thanks.

This random freeze and my usb stopping working is the only problems i ever have with this great notebook. I don't even get a bsod.
-
My computer is still random rebooting, bugcode BSOD, and my usb ports have been stopping working.
The laptop will work for a long time, and then bam, one of them will happen.
I have tried SP1, that didn't help.
I have now installed Throttlestop, going to see if that helps. Celarent, if you read this, please post what settings you used.
This issue is one of these things:
1. A software (MS) issue: not sure this is tops on my list though, because my problems go away with the disable cpu idle tweak. If it was purely software, the cpu idle state should be irrelevant.
2. An issue with the cpu idle states: I still think this is the culprit, just not sure though why the usb issues? If anyone could link the freezing and usb issues with a good reason, then the cpu idle issue is the most probable.
3. Bad usb implementation: that said, Asus replaced my usb ports, so unless ALL Asus usb boards/ports are bad.........unless I won the lottery, and have had TWO bad USB boards.
