    Hello friends!

I'm looking into buying the necessary to run my G73 on the road, and from what I've read, an inverter seems to be the way to go, however, I have a couple questions before I actually buy it to make sure I get the right one.

I understand the power supply that comes with the laptop is rated at 150w. Is this peak power or will it draw 150w at a constant rate? I assume either way, there is some energy loss in the inverter, so buying a 150w inverter would be a poor choice if I plan on doing anything cpu or gpu intensive. At the same time, however, I don't want to buy one so powerful that it wrecks my charging system. Maybe 200w?

Secondly, I remember reading somewhere that the cigarette lighter plugs have a sort of limit as to the amount of power they can supply, is this true? I've seen inverters with both the cigarette lighter plugs as well as battery clamps (which would work out just fine, my truck has a +/- lead in the cab that I use to power the cb, so I would be able to hook the clamps right to that).

Finally, I found a car adapter that fits the G73 ( http://www.amazon.com/Adapter-G73Jh-G73Jh-A2-G73Jh-X1-Hiport/dp/B0048HO6GK), but with no reviews and from a company I personally have never heard of, I'm a little hesitant to just buy it and hope for the best.

Also, in case it will help, the truck has 4 Deka heavy duty commecial batteries (although one of them is wired specifically for essential systems such as the starter, and is protected by a low voltage detection system), and the alternator is rated at 110 amps@12v (though I try to keep idle time to a minimum, fuel is just too damn expensive).

Thanks a lot for the replies!

You'll want a quality car adapter or inverter, the voltage isn't a constant 12v and can easily ruin electronics.

The cigarette lighter port is rated up to 140w. I learned this the hard way. :)

I ran clips from the battery nodes under the hood, and just inside the passenger door, and put the inverter in the passenger foot bay. Nice little 350w one from Radio Shack. Works great.
