After the truly knowledgable folks at DELL kept screwing me over, I finally cancelled my order for a fully stocked XPS17. I did this after I found the ASUS G73JW-ROG Limited Edition on Amazon.

When I verified online that my DELL order was indeed cancelled, I order this from Amzon. Is this model limited solely to Amazon? I haven't seen these specs on the G73JW anywhere else.

Intel i7-740QM (1.73GHz Quad-Core with Turbo Boost up to 2.93GHz)
    16GB DDR3 1333MHz , 4 SODIMM Sockets
    Nvidia GTX 460M Graphics with 1.5GB GDDR5
    1TB Hybrid HDD/SSD (2x 500G 7200RPM/4GB SSD)
    Blue-Ray Burner
    Illuminated Keyboard
    1x USB 3.0 + 3x USB 2.0 Ports
    802.11 b/g/n
    Bluetooth
17.3-Inch Full HD (1920x1080) LED Display
    2.0M Webcam
    Gaming Backpack and Mouse
ASUS ROG Dogtags w/limited edition serial number
1yr Accidental Damage Warranty and 2yr Standard Warranty Included

My XPS17 was supposed to be delivered 12/20, and was delayed. DELL are very customer UNFRIENDLY and complete idiots. I find this ASUS machine to be better equipped, screenwise, and it was about $700.00 cheaper than the XPS17.

Too bad for DELL. I've been ordering from them for over 15 years, but I am DONE with Dell. Customers are just not at all important to them anymore.

I am also wondering what sort of recovery options come with the ASUS. Do they provide any disc backups at all?

I plan to wipe out everything and do a clean install of Win7 and install only what's necessary. Do they provide an option for a Win7 disc, or Do I need my own? (I do have another copy of Win7 if I need it). Also, I downloaded EVERYTHING fromthe ASUS download website for the G73JW series. Can anyone verify what I REALLY need for a fresh Win 7 install? There is an awful lot of stuff they have available. For instance, they have both Intel WiFi and Azurewave WIFI - which do I need?

I know, I guess the real answer is to wait until I get the machine and see which is actually installed, but I wanted to prepare a DVD of only what I need beforehand.

    Thanks for any answers.

That model is not exclusive to Amazon but damn, 16GB's of memory, two hybrid 500GB HDD's, Blu-ray burner, 740QM, that's a beast.

Nice spec. You should get a recovery partition and a tool in Windows to burn recovery discs that will include the Asus software. It is better to burn a windows disc for the link in the Windows Legal Discs thread to do a clean install.

Wow, until I saw your post, I didn't know the extra 16GB RAM and Dog Tag cost $400 more than what I have paid for my G73JW-3DE @J&R.

BTW, the G73JW-3DE has the same config with the Full HD 120hz 3D screen without the 16GB RAM (8GB RAM instead) and Dog Tag.

That's an odd-looking backpack. Orange and very round, like you're wearing a Thule cargo pod on your back. :p

The mouse does look nice... and it seems it has higger DPI.

I hardly doubt there is any use of having 16 gigs of memory, some people might have a use for such amount not me...

Then again you probably will be the only one having a laptop with 16 gigs of memory....
