    Hi,
I bought G73JW from xoticpc awhile back and enjoying it atm. While I love to buy another one, I am trying to see if there's an alternative/better gaming laptop that I can purchase as a gift for a family. Purchase another one or go for something newer/better?

    Budget ($1000~$1500)

what are you talking about dude,
the g73jw is an excellent gaming laptop(besides the gtx560m is the 460m with higher clocks)
from my point of view the g74 won't be an upgrade for you.

So for the current market, G73JW is the way to go? I was going to buy 2 laptops (1 for an upgrade and 1 for a gift). I guess I will just use G73JW but for a gift, what should I get?

The only way you'll ever see any significant performance difference is if you upgrade to something that has a 6990M or a 580M in it, meaning you'll have to get a Sager/Clevo or an Alienware.

The G74SX is only a sidegrade.

I still am looking for a gaming laptop for a family. Playing a game on a 4 year old laptop with less than 10fps in lowest settings make my eyes bleed. I think he needs an upgrade!

It would help to know what you want to spend. As Amnesiac stated Sager or AW. If you can go w/o a lighted KB I would look at GenTech PC - Customize System
    Sager 8170 - ATI 6990, screen - 90% NTSC Color Gamut, Glossy - Windows 7 --- $1800.00 from an excellent etailer!

I forgot to include the budget when I updated. G73JW is out of production so I need to find an alternative...
