I'm considering a G73JW-QHDA1-CBIL purchase soon, and I want to install an SSD into it. The specs of this machine shows that it has a 750gig 7200 RPM drive. I would assume that the second bay is therefore empty. Am I correct in that? Will I have any issues installing an SSD in there? Does it come with a bracket to install the other drive?

    Thanks.

You won't have the second drive caddy, you can order them from ebay or asus, but it could take weeks.
I had the same issue, used a piece of cereal box folded over and under the drive, then another piece folded and gently wedged between the end of the drive and the wall of the bay to prevent it from moving.

Do you happen to have an idea as to the part # of this bracket? I checked eBay and there are several listed but none of them mention the G73JW, some don't mention any notebook models at all.

    Thanks.

I installed one in mine. To get the SDD to seat correctly on the connector, I had to remove a couple of rubber pads next to the connector. I ordered the bracket from the above link a month ago, still waiting for delivery. At least it shipped. In the mean time a couple of foam ear protectors are holding the drive in place.

I JUST got my spare bracket in, and have no use for it now, since I sold my G73 on Nov. 13th (and got the K52Jr) *LOL* ... I'm going to keep it in case I ever get a G73 or laptop that requires it.

I priced out those brackets and was shocked to see how much they would end up costing. Allan, if you change your mind about keeping yours, I'd consider buying. I see you are in Toronto as well.

    Hi. just buy this bracket:

    HP ZD7000 Hard Drive Caddy

it fits perfectly and is very cheap. I needed to buy a 2nd hdd and realised that the one from asus parts was so expensive. I bought the hp one because it is like an exact replica of the asus one. The only thing you need with it are M3 screws. 2 of them. Just check ebay they have loads of those brackets.

infact here is the same one i bought. HP ZD7000 Hard Drive Caddy on eBay (end time 19-Feb-11 14:13:22 GMT)

btw if you ask the seller for screws he throws them in for free with it ;)
