I have had a G73JW for a few months and overall I love it. I however couldn't' pass up trying the 3D version of the G73JW's little sister. What I'm wondering is what people think my chances will be of swapping drives from the 73 to the 53 to avoid the loooong process of tweaking things to where I want them? The specs are very similar but are they similar enough?

    Thanks.

Windows NT based OS's are traditionally tied to the north bridge chipset. If they are the same then best case scenario a retail copy of windows will freak out and want to re-activate due to the number of other hardware changes.

Not so sure about the oem copy. But fail is probably in you future.

You are better off with a clean install. It's going to do a full redetect of hardware anyway, and reinstall all the drivers. Plus then require Activation.

Thanks to all for the input. I ended up returning the G53JW-3DE and getting a G73JW-3DE (amazing screen) and I then did the HD swap with the 17" 3DE and after reauthorizing Windows 7 everything has worked great.
