    G73JW, Windows 8, and the endless fan

    Windows 8 has been fine for me except for the fact that the fan is going almost full blast all the time. My temps are fine, I've tried playing with power settings, and I can't seem to do anything to make the fans shut up. Any ideas?

    I have a G73JW and I am on the verge of installing Windows 8, but after finding your post, I'm now having second thoughts. Did you ever resolve this?

    I know they are different chipsets, but on my G73JH the fan did behave normally regardless of drivers etc... thats got to be an annoying problem. I really liked 8 but unfortunately had to return to 7 due to a random freezing problem.

    Fans are BIOS controlled anyway, aren't they? Choice of OS really shouldn't make a difference at all.

    If you are not running bios version 205, then update it. Stock bios is 203. My fans run normally since I changed the bios to 205.

    In case you are not familiar with checking the bios version, hit F2 when you see the ASUS logo flash on your screen during start up.
    This will take you straight to the bios, and you will be able to see the version at the top left.
