I decided to install Windows from scratch on my G73JW-A1, primarily to get rid of all the bloatware and what not. As such, I did some searching and came across the two following guides:
- Complete Walk-through For Doing A Clean Windows 7 Install
- Legal Windows 7 Download Guide (assuming you have a key)
Using those guides as a reference, I have been able to download the Win7 ISO, make the necessary change to allow it to be used for installing Win7 Home Premium, install Win7, back up and restore my activation, and get into a base Win7 build. From there, I fully updated Win7 and started down all of the software packages identified for the Win7 64-bit G73JW series laptop. The list of packages installed thus far are as follows:
1. ATK Driver
2. Realtek Audio Driver
3. Bluetooth Driver
4. Camera Driver
5. Gaming Mouse Driver
6. Intel Chipset Driver
7. Intel Management Engine
8. Intel Rapid Storage Driver
9. Intel TurboBoost Monitor
10. Keyboard filter driver
11. LAN (Atheros) Driver
12. Multi-Card Reader Driver
13. NVIDIA Graphics Card Driver
14. Touchpad Driver
15. USB 3.0 Driver
What I've not been able to get installed or working is the following:
1. Intel TurboBoost Driver: I get the following message when I try to run the install:
"This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software."
2. The turbo mode button quick launch button doesn't work on the keyboard (assume it is related to #1)
3. The last quick launch button (changes display) also doesn't work.
Otherwise, I think things are all working.
Any thoughts, suggestions, etc. for the three problems I've identified above would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
jbush82
I've already found some solutions.
1. Identified as a problem in Chastity's G73 Driver and Application Reference. The package included with the driver CD is reported to work, thus I'm currently downloaded it.
2. The button works now after installing the ASUS Power4Gear Hybrid software package.
3. The button works now after installing the ASUS Spendid Utility software package.
Does anybody know if the "TwinTurbo Mode" capability is at all tied to Intel's TwinBoost capability?
-
yeah i got that error too
so actually the only turbo boost driver that works is from the disk (which is old)
right? -
The download finally completed. Unfortunately, the installer from the CD did the exact same thing. -
No, the Intel TurboBoost driver is current on the CD, the Monitor app is the one that gets updated. Also, I just did 2 reformats on various G73's, so I know the CD installer works. You need to install from the automated application, and NOT from the cd directory. There are some parameters that need to be passed onto the installer which I do not have atm.
TwinTurbo and TurboBoost are two separate things, and have nothing in common, except that enabling TwinTurbo turns TurboBoost off, and is an inferior performer. -
First time I hear that you have to install a driver for TurboBoost to work. AFAIK TurboBoost can be enabled or disabled in BIOS if the BIOS supports that. Our ASUS BIOS does not support this. TurboBoost is always on in our case.
Correct me if I am wrong. -
Also whats the point with posting a link to the turbo boost drivers on your ROG forum if they don't even work and neither does the CD. -

There's no such thing as a driver for Intel turbo boost, turbo boost is implemented directly in the CPU and is always there.
The program you mean is only the little widget from intel which shows you how much turbo boost the CPU gives you at the moment... not worth installing imo. -
There are two parts... The Monitor gadget, and the underlying driver that the monitor uses. And yes, it is in the list of Applications. Hit Advanced Mode to see it listed if needed.

is the webinstaller newer than the disk driver? (turbo boost)

I downloaded the Intel Turbo Boost Technology Monitor directly from Intel in September and it installs correctly. My file is dated 9/28/2010 and is called "TurboBoostSetup.exe". The current one on Intel's website is 2.0 and I haven't tried that one. It looks like they updated it to work with the Sandy Bridge processors but it still indicates backward compatibility with the i7 although it doesn't specify mobile or desktop.
I never had any trouble with the one off the CD. I have wiped and reloaded my G73 three or four times since I bought it in February of last year. Is this the one you tried to install and it didn't work?

If it is then I guess I better put the one I downloaded last year in a safe place because it might be hard to find on the web. I usually don't worry about things like that and will blow that kind of stuff away when I do file system "spring cleaning". I always figure the stuff from major companies can be downloaded at any time and the one I'm keeping is outdated anyway. -
i am getting confused right now about this thing and need some explanation
Intel Chipset INF for Series 5 v9.2.0.1021 - this is the driver for the chipset right... ok so i installed it through CMD with the command -overall (doesn't want to install in the regular way)
which also updates my SATA AHCI Controller to version 7.0.0 (08/06/2010)
and after that i tried to install Intel Rapid Storage Technology v10.1.0.1008 which updates my SATA AHCI Controller to version version 10.1
i need both installations right or i need just the first one ... or a different command?
@ JODY that's probably only the monitor application not the driver for the turboboost -
Is it even necessary to install the Turbo Boost driver if we do not intend to use the intel widget?
-
No it is not.

anyone able to answer my question?
i am back to the old matrix storage v8.9 (asus site) becouse i can't install rapid storage v10
and btw matrix storage driver is better in HDD performance
and also what a stupid installation of the chipset inf driver...probably a lot of people are fooled that they've installed it but no until you see the installation window which tells you what is installed
