I've read somewhere that asus will come with a 3d version of this model soon.
I thought the LED backlight meant it was 3D capable, but I guess that's not it.
Or is it?![]()
I was planning to buy the G73jw-xt1 along with the nvidia glasses![]()
What is the maximum Hz of the display?
Thanks :]

G73jw-xt1 has a 60Hz, and therefore not 3D-ready, panel. But it can output a 3D image to a compatible 3D TV, if you have one.
G73jw-3DE has a 120hz, therefore 3D-ready, panel, and has an integrated IR emitter for the glasses. And it comes with the glasses. And it should start shipping this week, actually. -
Thanks for the quick reply!
I found the 3DE at ~$1950, kinda pricey as I was planning to get a $1500ish notebook.
I will probably not use the glasses on the laptop screen itself, just on a 3d TV, so I guess I'll stick with the JW.
About the 3d gaming, anyone already used it? Is it worth it? That's the only thing thats keeping me undecided about going JW or JH... -
If you've seen 3D movies (Avatar for example) and liked it, you will probably like gaming as well, if not more. The minus is that 3D mode tends to cut FPS rates in half, so often you'll have to sacrifice some detail to have an adequate framerate.
The mark-up comes mostly from the Blu-ray burner, dual Seagate Hybrid HDDs and all the bundled stuff, like the backpack, mouse and 3D glasses (which do cost quite a bit on their own). And I'm fairly certain you could find it for less than $1950. -
I wonder in the future how 3D gaming will look/work. I've only seen a 3D TV while I was on leave at Costco on display. Looked cool, but not four thousand dollars cool lol...

@puterg33k
From what I've heard, I don't think these G73 can provide the power to play 3d games at medium to high res/details on the newest games.
The issues on the jh's are kinda scary imo. Since my new notebook won't be in the us for more than 7 days, anything related to global warranty will be a pain..one more point to the JW ;P -

My (limited) experience with 3D makes my think that a 17'' screen simply won't cut it if you really want a decent experience. IMO you really need to use at least a 40'' display if you want it to feel immersive.
Which begs the question, will 3D be supported with external displays or just the built-in LCD? -
I assume you can plug the g73 in a 40'' 120hz display and enjoy the 3D experience.

I just checked compusa website and they updated some notebooks. Including this one:
ASUS G53JW-3DE Laptop Computer - Intel Core i7-740QM 1.73GHz, 6GB DDR3, 750GB HDD, Blu-ray Player/DVDRW, 15.6 Display, Backlit Keyboard, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, 3D Vision, Black at TigerDirect.com
I was going for the G73JW-XT1, but this one seems to have better screen (3d ftw!) and smaller size (+portability). It also has the usb 3.0, bd player and 750gb 7200rpm. Only 6gb ram(1333) instead of 8gb from the G73 version. Anyone thinks the -2gb of ram will be noticeable during gaming? -
FYI: There is also a G73JW-3DE version of that laptop too.
-
Thanks, I checked that too! but I like the portability on the g53 (kinda..cuz its still big/heavy).
Nothing about the ram affecting gaming performance anyone?.. -
no it wouldnt affect gaming performance.
So much about the cost of this model is about this screen
Its quite possible the 17 inch version of the screen is more impressive.
G73JW-XT1 3D-ready?
