I would like to be able to remove AC power (to run on battery) without losing performance. Can this be done?
I know that by default, the laptop tryings to save power when switched to battery power.
I've gone in my "Power Options > Advanced Settings" and set Minimum Processor State AND Maximum Processor State to 100% for Plugged-In and Battery.
I've actually gone through all these advanced power options and mirrored the battery configuration to equal the plugged-in configuration.
And yet, 3DMark'06 gives a score of 12,000+ while plugged in, and around 8,000 while running off the battery.
Is there something I missed? Thanks

What about your graphics adapter settings....using PowerPlay?

And expanding on MarkS's post regarding ATI's Powerplay, set your battery settings to Maximum Performance if you want well, Max Performance on Battery.

ATI's Powerplay setting within the Power Options are both already configured to "Maximize Performance".
What else could be causing this slow down, I wonder?
[edit] Oddly though, even with battery/plugged-in both set to "Maximize Performance" in the Power Options (Advanced), they are unchanged within CCC.
I've also now noticed this inconsistancy within the actual Power4Gear app which apparently "Custumizes" the power profiles. Just goes to show, if you change the option in one place, it doesn't actually mean it has changed, not until you change all locations. Heh.
Going to try running 3DMark again after I charge my battery some. -

I ran the 3DMark06 benchmark and it comes out around 6-7k. I tried twice, the first time I had Powerplay (in CCC) set to Maximize Performance. The second time, I had Powerplay settings turned off all together (shouldn't differentiate between the two power modes this way).
As far as I can tell, performance settings are set to maximum. Turbo mode is on, CPU is set to maximum. What could I be missing still? -
This is just my opinion but you will never see the same performance in battery mode as you will see with it plugged in. The second you turn on laptop you are using the maximum battery you have from that point on it is slowly pulling down your battery if you believe that 1 hour or less is slowly. The g73 is a power hog using if I recall 115 watts to run in performance mode. So unlike say a gallon jug that you pour a steady stream of water out it maintians the size and volume in stream till the jug is empty. A battery on drian drops in voltage and amperage in steps till dead some batteries can hold voltage at a point then decline but I hope you understand what I've just wrote.

So basically you're saying that the battery alone doesn't have enough push to drive the same performance that can be achieved while plugged in?
I seem to recall my old MacBook Pro not being able to run at optimal CPU speeds while the battery was being shipped back to Apple.
Would it be safe to say then that both power sources are needed for best performance? I'm still hoping someone will tell me I'm just forgetting one key toggle-option! 5,000 points less in 3DMark06 is not what I'd like to see when running on battery -

i have the JW model and I experience the same exact thing, everything set to performance, even at nvidia control, set power to "prefer performance", gaming at around 30 fps, unplug AC, fps drops to 15. My performance can never be as good as it is plugged it.
i mean they have to double the size of the AC adapter to supply enough power for the machine, i doubt that small battery pack is enough.
I leave my battery out when i'm plugged in (to reduce battery deteriorate), the performance stays top notch. -
either way, your looking at about 15-20 min of battery time when unplugged and running a game on full anyway. Its a portable gaming machine guys, not a netbook lol
