Hi
I currently have the latest BIOS (rev 213) and a custom vBios by Chastity.
I was not getting any BSOD or GSOD's before, but after getting rid of the dust in my fans, it is running a lot cooler. Now overclock the GPU a bit.
I downloaded AMD Overdrive, and installed it. However, as soon as it loads (at windows logon screen), I get a BSOD regarding AODdriver.sys.
I can fix it up unistalling it, but I do want to use the program (overclocking for better GTAIV use). Thanks

when you see asus logo , keep pressing f8 button until the safe mode and other options pop up , in that menu select start windows in safe mode and get in to desktop and uninstall amd overdrive.

you should overclock
using msi afterburner or trixx -
Can either of them adjust the fan speed?
For some reason the GPU fan sometimes is at full speed, even when it's only 55' degrees -
AMD OverDrive is for if you have an AMD CPU/Chipset system...
OverDrive is unlocked if you flashed your vBios properly in the CCC. Reinstall the drivers... -
Yes as Hulawafu said if you have flashed the OD Vbios you should have access to it otherwise it is going to be driver related unless you have not flashed it correctly.
You cannot adjust the fan speed the only option you have is to force them to 100% but then that completely destroys the whole stealth thing. If you are seeing high fan speed from only one side then fire up HWINFO sensors and check the temps across the board as the CPU and GPU run on separate fans, as you are facing the screen left fan is the CPU right is the GPU.
I always used Overdrive on my JH never had a problem with it as basic as it comes. -
Well after the recomendation I'm using Trixxx Safire utiltiy. Is that still good? It seems to be working fine so far!
Any recomendations for my first GPU/Mem clock settings?
Also, probably a sepearte matter, but CCC is really problematic for me. I installed the suite, and it wouldn't boot. So I used a driverclearner and an ATI removal too to uninstall, then reinstall, but the new install was the same...
Its not such a problem for me as I haven't found a use for it yet -
are you sure it on 100% ?
-
My first OC experice- I ran them at about 200mhz above clock, ran GTAIV and temps were fine. However, the display adapter kept 'not responding' then recovering... Ideas?
Also, a quick question- is GTAIV more CPU or GPU intense for this kind of laptop (G73- i7 720qm, 5870HD 1GB)?? -
What Settings?
Run Benchmark And Tell Me The Fps You Get. -
I haven't got any ENB or other enhancements, but I do have a number of custom vehicles and other mods installed (the reason I am still playing) -
I had a dell hd 5870m , I was able to get 960 core and 1350 mem @ 1.2v .
ran gta iv at 1600x 900 : textures high : shadows very high , night shadows very high and all at high , view distance 100 , other two @ 100 , it was the maximum settings supported by the game , game doesnt allow anything over it ,
my fps 63 .
inside apartment its 130 . -
When I go above 800 Core, and 1100 Mem, lots of blue particles appear, and the game crashes.
Forgive me for my ignorance here, but I'm completely new...
Do I need to adjust the voltage? Where do I do that?
Any whilst doing all this- should I be worried about overpowering my power brick? -
The Asus 5870M does not overclock well. If you are able to achieve 800/1100 that is more than most can and I could never get mine much higher than 825/1125. You cannot adjust the voltage it is hardwired on that model.
Just make sure your temps are ok with HWINFO as I mentioned on the other page your brick is fine I had mine drawing around 180watt when I had my XM you wont be going anywhere above 150. -
My power brick is 19.7a x 7.6v (149.72W) and it gets quite hot at times. I've got 2x SATAs @ 7200rpm (500GB & 1TB). Adapter isn't the original, it's a LiteOn, as I've had two break on me due to dodgey power in countries I've lived in. -
Your brick is fine as long as it is the 150watt rated which it is and it should be able to switch voltage and should say this on the back something like 100v-240v make sure you are within that to prevent it breaking but it may just be dodgy countriesYour temps however should be monitored with HWINFO under load to make sure they stay below 90oC CPU and GPU.

Okay thanks Yiddo.
I've been running it at 825/1125 and it runs quite well, (sub 80'degrees). However, these blue square flash in the game (but can't be screen shotted). What's this about? -

For instance with mine it is:
1 core: 3.5ghz
2 cores: 3.2ghz
3 cores: 2.8ghz
4 cores: 2.4ghz -
Okay thanks. I'm using the shareware version of it. Do I need to bother buying the authentication key?
And will this be a bigger drawing issue for my power adapter? I wish there was a program to measure power draw -
For no apparent reason, it's stopped working. Trixxx opens up, but when I set the mem clock/core sppeds, it reverts back to stock.

try uninstalling and clean with ccleaner and reinstall .
