    Hi All,

New to forum and new owner of a G73SW-A1. Was looking at all the big hitters and decided on Asus for the warranty and bang for the buck. Also own ROG motherboards which have all be rock solid.

Notetbook is stock with the AV and Microsoft office bloatware removed. I only have WoW and StarCraft II loaded. Have updated with Asus Update and SP1 for Windows 7 x64; so far so good. Even over wireless (while not in a major city) with everything cranked up in WoW i'm running 74 to 104 FPS.

Ok now here is the challenge; the switches to the upper left. All appear to work as expected except the "Lights Canellation" switch. Now I could have sworn when I got the unit that this switch would canel all lights on the machine and bring them back to the exact brightness levels as before but now it doesn't work like that. Meaning it will turn off all the lights but when I re-engage everything comes back at the most dim setting. I must hit FN+F3 or FN+F4; my question is this NORMAL?!

Contacted Asus support (big mistake but hey I'm desperate). They first had me remove/reinstall ATK Driver. Then install the KB Filter Driver. Then flash BACK to 202, flash up to 203 and then back to 205. They finally said Windows Update must have "Broken" it with SP1 and I need to reload (I just got it how I like it!)

Now I'm in the industry and understand drivers aren't perfect but I find it hard to believe something like this can go unnoticed by Asus. I'm wondering the following:

    1) anyone else experiencing this?
    2) am I just higher than a kite and it's working as expected? Meaning it kills the light to everything and when it comes back on I must set my level?
    3) if its suppose to come back to its previous light levels what must I do to get this?

I know this all sounds silly but in all honesty this is one of this nagging things that will drive me nuts till the end of time.

    Thanks!

    DT

It has been working like that for my JH since day one, once I disable all the lights and then try to turn the lights back on again, it starts from the dimmest level. It seems kinda weird of how it works, but I never really questioned it. Doesn't bother me much as I rarely turn them off anyway.

Hmm.. agree bit still frustrating. Mine doesn't even come back at the dimest levels; it simply comes back at complete darkness and I must crank it up; other than this this machine is amazing for the sub 2k price point.

It probably has something to do with ATK not storing the brightness level right, or it simply never stores it. My keyboard light is completely off even when I turn the lights back on and I have to manually raise it for it to light up again. I think it is due to a change they made in a later version of ATK, changing the default value of keyboard lightning when turned back on to off instead of fully lit or something.

The light switch turns off the light bar, and the top 3 left leds, and the keyboard backlight. Toggle it, and everything but the KB light comes back on.

You have to turn the keyboard backlight back to max brightness with Fn+F4.

So in other words, perfectly normal behavior.

I wasn't aware of that. The latest ATK turns the backlight back on too after toggling it back on? Even on the dimmest settings that would be brilliant.

    Thanks Boner! :)

Amazing how these forums know more than support.

On to the next issue... once I find one!

Welcome to the club DR. Try turning off all lights, then put it to sleep, once awakened all 3 buttons will be lit.. at least they are for me on the JH. Not looking for a solution, have already wasted to much time w/power4gear, ATK, power profile settings, etc. Enjoy, Josea

    Thx Jose!

The "buttons" are lite; just what that one button does. Like I mention when it turns off the ligthts they are all off. when I turn everything again my expectations was for them to come back at the previous level; but I guess thats wrong. It come back on but you must set the lighting level on the keyboard. :)

Now to figure out the turbo.. guess it's automagic and works when needed?

Don't use TwinTurbo at all, also make sure in BIOS the Turbo mode so set to [Normal] (this setting is the same as TwinTurbo). TwinTurbo is not the same as Intel Turboboost. It overclocks the BCLK by a bit and the CPU gets a 100Mhz boost, but people have reported a performance decrease due to it. The Intel Turboboost works automatically and you don't have to do anything to it.
