I've owned this laptop for six years and hate to get something else. I recently ordered another GTX 460m, as it was crashing often with artifacts. The original GPU was a G73JW and one I ordered was a G53JW. Vendor said they were the same, however, HDMI no longer works. Do I need a different vbios for this card. Vendor blamed the mono. I ordered another mobo, same board. HDMI still doesn't work on the new board.

Next issue... Fresh re-therm IC Diamond.... GPU runs nice and cool... CPU is running hot. Re-therm'd again... Still runs hot... Inside is spotless, both fans working, vents are spotless. CPU has a nice even spread and no run off on thermal paste... Perfect amount. By hot... Starts up at about 80-90 c, then drops down to 60-70 c. Open Firefox and it ramps up to 90-100. Using Argus monitor and fan cranks up to high on the CPU side fan.

    Any help is appreciated.

for the gtx460m there are 2 versions ...one with 1GB of memory and 128bit and another one is of 1.5gb memory and is of 192bit...there might be the difference of the size your old one might be of 1gb and the new one might be of 1.5gb and it comes in g53jw and i think vbios is the issue for this and search for the modified vbios if there is any and give it a go ...
according to your second problem of cpu heating .. it might because of your cpu heatsink base which touches with the cpu die needs lapping ...you can do it by yourself with a sandpaper(not too hard) patiently and slowly...maybe it will work

Thanks for the reply. My original GPU is 1.5gb and the g53jw is as well.

Flashed vbios and all is well on the GPU end. CPU however, is still running hot, after the lap. Could it just be failing and running hot? The cooler is perfect now, perfect IC diamond job done, fan is new and vents are clean... Still running between 70 and 100 c. 70 c once its literally doing nothing... 90-100 c if anything is opened... Like a browser or an iTunes update.

Sorry for the duplicate posts. My phone was not showing it posted.

So, the issue with the CPU is the heatsink. Seems these pipes have vented. No fluid left in them. I have ordered another CPU heatsink and will post new temps after another tear

The G73Sw was the first ASUS gaming I owned and the best one, had the screen res I wanted 1600x900 as higher resolutions are a bit small for my liking when it comes to text/icons and I don't want scaling. It also had the best speakers with REAL BASS! Hold on to that best brah
