So, I am at a friends house, and I fall asleep, and I wake up to see a crack on my laptop. Either from overheating or someone stepping on it, I have no idea how it happened.
I have neweggs service net insurance(which actually doesn't cover anything ing useful, so woopdie ing doo there) and now I have a 1000$ paperweight that I can see half the screen of.
I need helping finding a trustworthy place that can replace my LCD. Does anyone know any companies that offer good prices on LCD replacement(at this point I am willing to pay, I have no insurance because service net is absolute trash)
If not a company, anyone know if it is safe if I buy the LCD online, then find someone who can replace the LCD somehow?
Thanks,
-Pretty ing mad newegg customer.
edit- noticed it was moved, sorry about that I am a long time lurker/first time poster here (and im pretty upset so that plays its part too ): )

Sorry to hear about your screen rnshah5
Any chance you are still covered under Asus ADP?
ASUS ADP at a Glance
Sir Robin -
You can look for an Asus Service Provider near you, those guys will be able to replace the screen, but it'll cost you. Last time i saw someone mention repairs, the charges were something like 75$/h + parts. I suspect the repair will cost you somewhere between 200-300$, but that's just a guess. I've enver had to have one of my laptops repaired so i don't know the exact rates. Everything that needed fixing i've done myself so far, but that isn't for everyone, laptops are pretty fragile sometimes.

I can replace it for you, i've done a hand full of asus rog laptops and a couple alienware laptops and probably 100 or so other consumer laptops. I own a computer store in grand rapids michigan.
Your screen is a 17.3" LED backlit lcd with a resolution of 1920x1080. I've replaced a screen in a G73JW which is pretty much the same. Part number for that screen is HSD173PUW1. If you search ebay you can probably find a used screen pulled from an asus rog series laptop. With a used screen you save a little bit of money and get a genuine part.
For instance laptopaid has one for about $105 shipped
With all rog laptops you need to split the laptop apart to pull the hinges and screen. While i have it all apart i can also clean your heatsinks and reapply either arctic silver 5 or ic diamond thermal compound to help the laptop run cooler. The g53jx i did had both heatsinks clogged and it was only 8 months old.
Here's a pic of that
Let me know if you want to go this route, sending it to asus will probably cost 3x more. Send me a pm or contact me on facebook if you need my help. -
i also do laptop/desktop repairs and have replaced a broken power jack on a g73 (solder new dc jack on board) and can also confirm that whatever c4n1 is saying is correct.

The g73 is a lightweight to replace the screen. You just have to unscrew the bezel from the screen, unscrew the screen from the backplate and remove the connector (carefully by pulling the tab straight back while staying level with the screen), remove the frame(s) from the screen, put the frames on the replacement, re-connect the new screen, screw the screen to the backplate and screw the bezel back on.
tada.
G73SW LCD Screen cracked...Service Net is garbage.
